Default This can't be safe?

I bought a Cayenne Turbo this evening, when driving home I felt the brakes had a low speed stick or chatter.

Upon closer inspection, it looks like the dealer installed non-turbo rotors.
They look much smaller then the dust shield, not cross drilled and the caliper seems off-set too far..
Can anyone confirm this?

what year is it? looks old and in that case anyone could have installed smaller rotors... the rotors surely look downsized by the looks of the caliper alone.. im sure if you popped the pins and removed the pads they would tell a much better story (half worn)

Yeah, they are not right. I have a quarter inch of pad hanging over the rotor.
My guess is they are for a V6 or S.

It's a 2004. First gen.
Are they supposed to be cross drilled as well?

Absolutely love the way it drives, but I'm sure it is going to have kinks and quarks to work out. First line of work is to get it at least safe

No cross drilled oem rotors on the first gen turbo.

OEM Front rotors should be 18 inches, OEM Rear 17 inches.

I like to say I'm shocked ........... Correct rotors too $$$

Hope the rest of the car has not been maintained to the same level.

No way it was done intentionally to save money. Pretty sure it was an honest mistake.
Just over half the pad is in contact with the rotor.

The dealer was part of the Porsche group here.

Looking at it closer, it looks like a rear rotor on the front.

I just changed the ones on my 03 CS and if that's the front I need a better picture. Looks funny. My fronts were like 6 to 7 inches long.

An honest mistake. I would say an incompetent workshop. That is inexcuseable for a dealer to have made that mistake when even from the pic it is obvious. That is the problem with many dealer Techs nowadays, their not mechanics, they look up codes, then they follow a step by step workshop procedure to repair or troubleshoot, many times without a working knowledge of what they are doing or knowing how the sytem even works. I bet if you walked into the workshop and asked one of the mechanics the 4 stages of a 4 stroke engine and they would all be scratching their heads

So I assume the dealer will make good on this for you?

I don't see how any dealer could do this .... And the rears can't fit on the fronts?

I bet they are from and S

I know they could miss it when they do the CPO inspections -- since many don't inspect them.

Wow. '04's came with quarks? I feel so deprived. What was the option code?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark (and I think working them out might tend to destroy the P!G..)

Called the salesman and not an hour later they had rotors, pads, wear sensors, caliper bolts and retaining pin/springs at the parts counter of the Porsche dealer. They offered to do it, but I like to do my own work.

The truck was purchased used from the Ferrari dealer, Porsche nor Ferrari did this; but they handled it beyond my expectations. I didn't have to ask for pads and the related hardware to do it right.

Do I win a pack of bacon for my first day of ownership?

You didn't get the quarks with yours?
