"Rather than discarding the brand, these consumers "save face" by engaging in meaning-making designed to self-servingly influence their social audiences' interpretation of the brand's evolving meaning"

Badge buying soccer mom demographic = Cayenne.
There was a time when the Cayenne was necessary in order to maintain Porsche's independence and assure the future of the 911 ... actually that was never the case.
Dr. W is gone and the P!g (and it's bastard sibling the Panamera) remain, Porsche is no longer independent and the 911 is still an icon, the most recognized automotive shape in the world, a 40 year legacy to Porsche.
I am glad Larry never lived long enough to see this today

Any marketing or brand management experts out there? I think if I ran PCNA, I would very much keep my ear to the ground on RL chatter... Seems like the ultimate focus group - I mean what type of normal person gets hooked on a stupid car blog and posts hundreds of messages? Probably one with a passion for the brand...
(or, one with constant mechanical problems, as is the case for us PP participants).

And special thanks to her husband, the Porschephile that won't buy one because he doesn't want to be "that guy." He wants to be the p-whipped loser that kowtows to his bitch corporate ladder climbing wife that gets her way every time while he stays home and changes diapers and reads bedtime stories while this domineering academic attends women's empowerment seminars.
Honey, he doesn't want to be "that guy," he doesn't want to be a man, period. Unless by man you mean some spineless piece of crap that is better suited to grovel at the feet of some dominatrix while shouting "Yes, Mistress!"
And I would fail your thesis based on word choice alone. It is thick, over-thought, and basically unreadable.
EDIT: At least the sniveling "man" you married should have alerted you to the same concerns regarding the 914, 928, 944, and Panamera that I am sure he may have had an opportunity to briefly peruse in an auto enthusiast magazine while he was busy rearing your children while taking them to the library during your important studies. Leaving out similar concerns for other earlier and later models is another thesis fail.
