Good evening Rennlisters.
Im an aircooled man but I bought a 2006 Cayenne S a few weeks back as a daily smoke and I am completely smitten with it and am loving being in it, using it, driving it etc..
I have a few niggles which I would like to put to the forum if I may:
1. On the tyre pressure display monitor I get an error beep if its enabled and the pressures all say minus 5 or something like that. I have to therefore keep it disabled. Could this be something to do with the sensor batteries ? Or mayeb the system is completely broken ?
2. When I pull my handbrake lever the (foot) handbrake does not return fully upwards and the handbrake lighht stays illuminated and I get warning messages. I have to lift it up slightly with my foot. Is this a simple fix ? Perhaps a new spring in the mechanism ?
3. When my headlights are on, sometimes when i go over bumps they momentarily flicker on and off. I get a warning message to check dipped beam. I did a search here and it said something about checking connections but didn't explain how. Should I be checking headlight connections somewhere ?
thanks for any info guys

The parking brake fix is very easy. There is a replacement pneumatic strut that will return the pedal all the way; parts and labor at a US dealer are about $100. Flickering headlights gets a lot more complicated; what works for some doesn't work for others. Start by removing the headlight assembly and then making sure when you reinstall it that it firmly locks into place. Instructions for removal and installation are in the owners manual. Replacing the bulbs also works for many people. If that doesn't do the trick, dig deeper into "search" and see what others have tried. You can also search on Renntech.org for some good info.
I don't have any experience with the Cayenne TPMS system to give you any advice there.
Glad you are enjoying your Cayenne!

OK, serious answer.
Did you check your tire pressure with a gauge? Maybe they are low?
The headlights may have a bad connection/corrosion. Pull out the headlight assembly and look for the green/white tell-tale on the connections. Clean up both ends of the connection even if you don't see anything obvious.
Can't help on the parking brake, but Renn seems to have good advice.

A TSB has been issued for the headlight problem. One potential issue is that the bracket that holds the headlight assembly can become loose, and so the connection to the light moves when you go over bumps, around curves, etc. I believe the TSB includes re-securing the bracket and using LocTite on the bolts that hold it in place so that they won't loosen again. I had this fix done to my Cayenne a few years ago, and I haven't had the issue since then.

There is a detailed thread somewhere on how to fix the dipped beams. I couldn;t find it , but I know it's out there somewhere.
Congrats on the purchase. The CS is a perfect compliment the air-cooled goodness, and each great in there own way.

I've driven 996 GT3's, 996RS's, 997 GT3's, the 97 MKii etc... and left feeling pretty uninspired with them. Throw in the boxster and the cayman which I also can't get along with and the situation with me and modern porsches is pretty bleak. But the cayenne ? Well the expectations are totally different as its a modern SUV and cant possibly be anything else and as an everyday companion is absoltely fabulous IMO.
