HID Foglight conversion
Anybody here replace there stock halogen foglight to HID?
Which brand HID and what kelvin?
This is my next project, I want my foglight to match the headlight. Maybe I might get the 5000k for the headlight and foglight. Perfect match.

For FORM (aka BLING) I guess HID fogs are good, for FUNCTION - the HID is everything you don't want in a diffuse fog light.
Just a thought. I've always felt people who run fogs when it's not foggy seem.. well.. lets say it's not an inpressive thing.

On the website, DDM offer lifetime warranty. The foglights cant be on auto. Should last a lot longer. On the headlights I'm questioning the life expectancy if is on auto.
I use my foglight as a driving light. Really light up the road. When using the headlights and foglight together.
There are some driver out there use only the foglight w/o the headlights. I find that very lame.

You can't use the foglight by itself on Cayenne, headlight dependent so you will have to remember to turn off the lights all the time. I got burned when i forgot and started the car in the garage with the door closed, the auto lights pop on and "ping" you lost one.

FWIW - IMHO most people run fogs when unneeded because (1) they think it looks cool and (2) they aren't aware that it lessens their useable vision. To me - it just looks dorky like a Ford Exploder owner might do.

The human eye doesn't see blue light very well. Have you ever noticed the little lights that are supposed to illuminate the steps in a movie theater? They are blue so that they won't distract the movie watchers. You may have also noticed people tripping on the steps. Depth perception is not good in blue light.
The 4,300K color temperature of OEM HID lights is a white light. As the color temperature increases to 5,000K or more, it becomes more blue there is less usable light. The best light to use in a foggy situation is actually a lower color temperature - something more yellow. This is why fog lights are often amber or yellow.
I have seen HID bulbs for sale with a color temperature in the yellow range, but I have no personal experience with them.

There's less usable light in a 5,000K bulb than a 4,300K bulb, which is why OEM manufacturers use 4,300K.
You are correct - there is a little more yellow in a 4,300K compared to a 5,000K - but that's a good thing.

I'm not sure about the LED strip, but it is certainly a higher color temperature than the OEM HID bulbs. 5,000K probably would match that better.
