I just bought a 2006 cayenne s the navigation disc is missing. any advise? thanks.

 

You can order one from someplace like Suncoast Parts or Sunset Imports.

 

Just a thought, did you check in the DVD under the passenger seat and in the drivers side rear luggage compartment panel. That was where my was in a metal Porsche box.

I've simply started using my Driod X phone... works great.

 

They appear on Ebay with great regularity - but rarely new ones. The newest I've seen there is probably 06/2007 version. Usually someplace around $100-125. New - the discount Porsche parts dealers seem to get close to $300 for one (I've asked for one for my birthday before we leave on a Coast to Coast trip.) You do want to check what version of software the PCM is running - you need B or C for most of the newer disks (and I'd suggest a search on that subject - there is a lot of info on it, and it's too confusing for me to remember off the top of my head.. )

 

Seriously. For as expensive as this option is, my iPhone and Google maps always seem better. Of course, my iPhone doesn't yell at me when I missed a turn.

I think the guy with the integrated iPad install idea is right on.

Wish list: new models would self-update Nav maps, POIs, construction, etc., whenever car is within distance of wi-fi signal. Which for most of us is every night in the garage.

 

When I need portable nav, I use the Tom Tom app for my iPhone. It's a fully featured GPS system, with turn-by-turn directions. It also has traffic warnings and avoidance. It is regularly updated through the app store.

For a more permanent solution, I ended up putting an aftermarket system in my 996. I went with the Kenwood DNX-6960. It has Garmin nav, bluetooth phone, Sirius XM, iPod connectivity, etc. It has been a great upgrade, and now my wife wants the same thing for the Cayenne. Looks like I'll be doing that upgrade too...

 

With the PCM2.1 upgraded to the latest software and wtih the new 2010/2011 Nav discs my unit is just as good as the portable Garmin I use in my older Audi tt. Now my later Audi RS6 RNS-E Nav unit is still better but I think the newer Audi Nav units are the industry standards by which others are compared. Now the BMW I-Drive is junk in comparison.

I am newbie to this forum, I have problem with FM tunner, it has tunning steps of 200kHz, it cannot tune to 89.8 MHz FM station instead it flips to either 89.7 MHz or 89.9 MHz. Can anyone help me on how to set the tunning step from 200kHz to 100kHz so that I can listen to my favourite station 89.8MHz and 88.4Mhz?

 

People keep saying they'd rather use the iPhone or a Droid for navigation. I know the apps are good (I have them on my phone) but do you really look at that tiny screen in your hand while driving? Unless I can stop or have a passenger follow the directions, I find it useless while driving. It's as dangerous as texting.

Even with the apps that have voice direction features, you still need to look at a map to help locate you. Sure, the car system isn't great but at least it's large enough and you can figure out where you're going okay. Using a larger screen Garmin or TomTom is better but then you have that funky thing stuck to your dashboard and plugged in somewhere when the battery dies.

The in-car system and a phone for backup will get you where you need to go. But the phone relies on either WiFi or 3G/4G and sometimes you can't get good phone service in certain areas.

I agree that the in-car system isn't the best tool for true GPS freaks but it does the basic job and very conveniently, imho.

 

Mangara, I believe they are set to tune every 200Khz. In Europe they do the even every 200Khz and in N. America they do the odd every 200Khz. Maybe a Porsche dealer can change them back and forth from even to odd. Where you live do you have stations that are both even & odd in the Khz range?
