Default Video input on GPS/radio/phone?

Sorry - I dunno all the three letter acronyms yet.. Is it PCM? The thing in the middle of the dash where there are lots of buttons and the little TV screen.. (this is more or less how my son would have described it.. I asked him once something about the engine in his car and he said "That big piece of metal in the middle under the hood?" but - I digress)..

Anyway - I've seen references to a video input on the module. Apparently there is an empty hole in one corner..

Is this a video input?
What format might it use? (NTSC/PAL?)
Connector it uses?
Can we assume if we press "Video" it goes live?

I know there are horribly expensive adapters that link into the fiber optics ring network in the truck.. but I'm thinking a very simple backup/rear-view camera option - like running a wire up to the video input if it exists. Press the video button when I think I might need to see behind me.

BTW - on Ebay (I assume it was made for the Toureg, but we're happy overflow..) there is a rather neat looking camera that replaces one of the license plate lights (and it still has a plate-light).. Very discrete. And $30. My sort of inexpensive insanely labor intensive update..

NavTV seems to be popular.

I've also seen recently a guy selling a kit that used a universal back up camera like you've mentioned but used a wireless system designed for tractor trailers to send the signal from the camera to the PCM unit. Looked like a nice idea and you wouldn't have to run wires all through the Cayenne! Just find a 12v sourcei n the back and the front and hook up the transponders.

NavTV costs $$$.. ($650 of them actually..) I'm looking for the $100 solution. Hence, my question on the unused input on the back of the GPS goober/box. I do like the transponder idea though.. and since it's made for truckers, it's gonna be cheapish.

Nope nothing in that range except PepBoys Stick on dash wireless display type. Do your self a favor, do some exercise and turn your neck around to see where your going, old school, much cheaper :-)

I still haven't gotten an answer..

Is the empty hole a video input?

I'm guessing no one actually knows..

Marc,

Good thought (and I'm a moderator on many BMW forums, and am always nudging people about that..)

'06 Cayenne/S, Titanium Edition and I believe the PCM is 2.1 at least?

I went to add this to my sig - but I can't find the option to edit/add a sig. Go figure. Tried to pay for a membership here the other night and PayPal barfed on doing it..

Thanks!

Then the answer is no. There is a slot in the back but was never used on US models, not sure if it was even used on Euro models. You cannot acquire the module.
