Default Late spring hail storm...

It was a rough weather day yesterday in the foothills. My wife was out in the Cayenne and got caught in a hail storm. It was roughly marble-sized hail, or about the diameter of a nickel. The hood and roof took the most damage - many, many small dents. Adjuster comes on Thursday. Sometimes the weather sucks...

Fortunately the 911 was in the garage.

Sorry to hear. That really sucks. I may be wrong, but I do not think they can fix the roof. It may be totalled.

Sorry to hear that. I was on hwy 36 at Sheridan ruing the storm. Hail pilled up nearly a foot deep on the highway. It was all just slightly larger than pea sized but came down by te buckets. Litterally deafening inside the CTT. The wipers were failing under the task of moving the hail.

Fortunately, I got home and there was not a single dent in mine. I'm sure if they had been just slightly larger I would be in the same boat as you.

Damn. That does suck. Hope you get a satisfactory resolution.
(I've always been paranoid about hail and the RX-7 – that thing's made out of aluminum foil)

I'm hoping it's not a total loss. Is the Cayenne hood made of aluminum like the 911? I ask because the hood seems to have the most damage...

I can't imagine that it would be totaled. The hood is simply a paint and replace item. The roof is a little trickier but not enough to total it.

I was driving on I-70 out by the airport, saw 30-50 storm chaser vehicles in high pursuit, luckily I only got caught in tons of rain but no hail..

My X5 was caught in a hail storm a couple of years ago, over 200 dents in roof and hood. Had it fixed by the Dent Wizard for about $1,000, or roughly $5 per dent. Hood looks perfect, roof almost so.

What a bummer, sorry to hear about it. Good thing the 911 was in the garage. Keep us informed on how it turns out.

You would be surprised to see what a good PDR guy can do. Don't give up hope.

I was in the TX Panhandle this weekend and saw a Chrysler 300 with baseball size hail dents removed by PDR.... You would never know it was damaged.

I'm not giving up hope. Just waiting for the insurance adjuster. It's not massive hail damage like I used to see on cars down in Texas. I'm hoping it's a "relatively" minor repair job.

Ah, just nuisance hail damage...... As an FYI, you might have some delays in getting PDR done in CO as many of the guys are in TX chasing storms.

I met with the adjuster today. His estimate was lower than I expected, but we'll see if that changes once we get the Cayenne into the shop and have a closer look at it. He believes that the hood needs to be replaced, and that they can do PDR for any other dents. It came in at roughly $2,500 for the total. I'm guessing it will be higher when it's all said and done.

Great news! There are horror stories of some cars with hail damage to the roof. Once some cars are totaled due to the roof damage, some "dealers" buy the car back, cut off the roof, and weld in a new roof. There is no longer roof integrity, and unfortunately some have died in roll overs, since the roof gave way in the rollover. Very sad.

Keep the car out in the sun and some of the dents will come out by themselves if they are not to bad.
