Might be an opportunity to add a CTT hood Since they are buying one anyway

I have never heard of this. Sounds kinda like urban legend to me.

Skinning a roof rarely, if ever, effects the scturtural memebers of the roof. The sheet metal peice of the roof really is not a structural piece in the sense of a roll over. It would be all the pillars. Which I can't imagine someone trying to hack off the pillars and replace those.

Do you have any links to such stories?

You are right, it was at the pillars, since it would be easier to hide the welds. It was on 60 minutes or ones of those news shows a few years ago. I believe there were a few cases in Florida if I recall. Definately not an urban legend.

For hail damage?

I could see them trying to take the roof off a car that had a BIG dent due to a hurricane (stuff falling on it) and replacing it with a roof from a car that suffered a front end crash. That would definately destoroy some integrity if done wrong.

Fortunately my roof dents are very, very small. There aren't too many of them. The majority of the damage is to the hood.

Here is an article where Missouri was looking at changing laws regarding some repairs. It uses the cuttoff roof for hail as a reason not to change the law.

http://www.abcmoney.co.uk/news/04200766858.htm

Of course, this would be for severe hail. But it is not one of those things you look at when buying used.

Just heard back from the body shop. Apparently, once they got the Cayenne cleaned up and under the lights, they found quite a bit more damage. Both fenders, and much of the passenger's side. Looks like this will be a bigger repair than we thought...

Best of luck with it Dennis. Hope it gets taken care of.

Please send some of the rain our way, after the 13" - 17" flood we've been bone dry, yards are brown and crunchy now.

Thanks. I'm sure the Cayenne will look as good as new when it's finished. The hail storm also damaged the roof on our home badly enough that it is being replaced as well. This was heavy hail!

I'd be happy to send rain your way Bill... we've had enough! It has rained here every day for the last week, and it's raining now. Nothing too heavy, but it has rained every day.

So far, we aren't missing anything by living in a house with no air-conditioning. It's going to be 39-degrees tonight.

The Cayenne is back. New hood, lots of PDR and painting and blending on the front end. It looks good. We're glad to have it back.
