My last Cayenne S had the two battery option (never had to replace them). Traded it after 135K miles.

I'm of the opinion that batteries will last a long time/the life of the car if maintained properly.

I would disagree. The chemistry of a wet cell does not lend itself to long (service) life in an automobile.

Well a wet cell secondary battery can last a long time, if not for the sulfuric acid falling off the plates, which can be minimized by maintenance and not discharging too much/long time. Batteries that are used/discharged/charged frequently last a long time. Battery companies I'm sure would like you to buy low/non-maintenance batteries that are designed to fail. Not a big deal regardless, batteries are relatively cheap.

I replaced my battery with twin optima 34R batteries at 60k on an 06 cayenne but I got camping and charge lots of things on the outlets.

Just an F.Y.I you can easily put a single 34R optima battery in the cayenne under the set I got pics if needed before I yet again upgraded.

Replaced mine at 58,752 miles (6 weeks short of 4 years old). I only replaced it because when I hooked up the Porsche Battery Tender the green light came on like normal but all at once the orange light started blinking rapidly. According to the manual (and IDRTFM) that blinking orange light indicates there is a positive discharge and the battery should be replaced.
So, as I am no electronic wiz and did not want to go toes-up on the road, I replaced the battery. I feel better.

I don't blame you, as I said in another thread I consider a battery a maintenance item, just like air filters, replace them as needed.

I suspect that the first few months of a vehicles life goes a long way toward determining the life of a battery. If the vehicle sits for extended periods on a dealers lot and has to be recharged a few times that will shorten it's life. If the vehicle is delivered shortly after arriving and is driven regularly keeping the charge up the battery will last longer.

Just my theory...

Sound theory Bill. I picked my CTT up in Leipzig and the only time I hooked up the trickle charger was when I was not going to drive for 3 or more days (due to work). During my research for the CTT purchase, I saw the battery issues going on and asked my mechanic in Germany "how long" and he said watch the trickle charger and he recommended every 4 years (maintenance) just to be safe. So, your assessment is spot on.

If my battery is dead (wife says she left the lights on), will it hurt the electronics if I jump start the car? or is it better to use a trickle charger instead?

I'm not an electrical engineer so take this for what it's worth.

If you need to drive the car right away go ahead and jump it, just make sure you hook the cables up correctly. However, if you have the time I would put it on a charger, a trickle charger may not work though if the battery is fully discharged. They're designed to maintain a charge, not "activate" them. I would use a charger with an output of somewhere between 6 and 10 amps. Personally, I have 3 chargers (overkill I know), a Battery Tender (1.5 amps), a 2/6 amp charger and a 2/10 amp charger. In your case I would use the 2/10 amp charger on the 10 amp setting to fully recharge your battery. I would keep the windows of the Pepper open just in case the battery vent system is not working properly, since the battery is under the driver's seat.

I've heard stories that the trickle chargers will fully charge a dead battery but it takes 3 - 4 days to do so. Best of luck.

As for jumping the Pepper, I'm sure they have voltage surge protections built into the cars electronics but with the quantity of electronics in these cars I would prefer to err on the side of caution. I would also make sure all power accessories are off prior to jumping the car. JMHO
