Timely poll as I have an apt. with dealer on Tuesday for replacing my battery...1/03 build with 84k on the odometer....I agree with Lewis that it is more of a shelf life issue than a mileage related issue...batteries ain't tires. This is the longest that I have had a car without replacing the battery. Good to know the beast can go beyond 150k. Hopefully by then Porsche will have put out a decent replacement.

Could that mean that the 03s were delivered mid 2002?
You actually have an '03. MY didn't flip over until either June or July of 03. Dealers that were selling in July with vehicles on the lot were "stuck" with cars that were a year old. It was a really dumb decision on the part of Porsche to not make all vehicles '04 during the first year of production.

Actually, I believe for the MY04, the production switch occurred on 03/03. Production dates 03/03 and up were classified as MY04.

Launch date of the Cayenne was 3/03. Ask me how I know. As I recall all dealers got a CTT in Basalt/Havanna. Mine was one of those.

Well I don't know what to say. My previous CS read 03/03 production date but was a MY04 (VIN decoder, owners manual etc). I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy.

This may shed some light:

or add confusion. No difference in '03 vs. '04 although as production continued in '03 into early '04 I seem to recall of various "fixes" to the initial faults of the earlier models.

Primarily new colors added to the initial (4?) colors.

The secondary battery was beginning to be phased out.
As far as "fixes" to the initial faults, define "initial"....

cracked coils?
cardan shaft?
rear window microswitch?
headlight condensation?
cowboy belt buckles?
hesitation?
TCU valves and F/W updates?

Another year or two and they will probably have all the initial faults ironed out.

The one notable change that I haven't done is to retrofit a collapsible spare. AAA only had to bail me out once and I wouldn't have wanted to change the tire under the circumstances.
In another year or two we will have the "mini Cayenne".

Born 03/03 was the cross over to 04 MY, the main difference as far as I can tell is the deletion as standard of the second battery

Also they did change a lot of parts from 03 MY but alas some made it into 04's anyway

However my dealer was good and changed everything out. I pitty the poor folk who did not press the dealers.
