Just bought an 09 dfi cayman s. I'm very interested to hear about long term experiences with the cayenne dfi; issues, concerns, maintenance (over and above factory rec) .
TIA

Should I be assured by the overwhelming quietness of this thread. Rennlist Cayenne owners probably have millions of collective miles on their dfi engines. Are the cayenne carbon buildup pics which went viral on the web an aberration ??
As a very recent dfi purchaser (2009 Cayman S), I hope so. Or is the lack of dfi issues due to maintenance and/or modifications unique to this board ??

I like the dfi on my 09 truck. No problems! Better throttle response, better mileage.

pdx: Me to
Mud: good to hear. that's why I posted. There must be many peppers with over 50K miles on their dfi.
This good news does raise several questions: What is your take on the viral pics of the massive carbon deposits on a dfi pepper ?? Are you folk doing anything to minimize this "theoretical" buildup ??

Likely the same thing many 993 owners will do to help delay SAI issues:
Use a bottle of Techron regularly...the good stuff.

The dfi deposits issue seems to be caused by a poorly engineered emission control system.
As far as I know some of the newer motors from Audi, VW, and Ford have either semi cured or never had this problem(FORD).
I talked to my Audi dealer about the issue, just bought an A4 for kicks which suppose to have some emissions control stuff redesigned to eliminate the deposits issue for this new model year.
The service guy mentioned to clean the deposits they will need to put a cleaning solution such as BG44K straight through the "intake manifold" to clean the deposits off effectively with an oil change afterwards. The service will run about $150 and maybe every 25k or so. Putting cleaners down the tank doesn't even touch the deposits considering how the dfi motors are designed.
