"Update your model year 2005 - 2007 vehicle with our new Navigation Update*. New maps provide the very latest in road updates, routing and location changes, and points of interest. So, not only can you explore new destinations, you’ll reach them faster and easier. The update includes over 6,000,000 navigable miles and more than 400,000 POIs for North America, as well as new and expanded coverage in major cities and metropolitan markets. Thanks to the latest Porsche Navigation System update, no road shall go undiscovered."

Will be driving to Eugene today and see if I can notice the difference.

Thanks for the information guys, can anyone tell me what the big differences are (if any) and if it's worth the upgrade.

Thanks,

In my trip to Eugene and back today, all I noticed was a differnet map display. I am guessing that there are more points of interest and maybe service stations etc. Did not have a chance to dig into it as I was towing a trailer and I was constantly checking my mirrors!

In checking the new software, it appears there are more POI's, but I cannot remember the extent of the previous POI's

Post Final Chapter

OK, I think I'm done. The most recent update disc was installed at PoN yesterday. No problems, no extra charges. So, the bottom line is: 2008 Nav/PCM update installed for $229 + 1Hr. labor. I haven't looked into what new info is in there yet.

I think they ate the additional charges, I wouldn't expect others to get the same price.

As for my PCM update, I was at Model Level "B" but it must have been SW version "V3.0" because when, as I stated earlier, I used the PCM Update CD in the PCM unit it did in fact do on update of the process:

Updating PCM
Device 1 of 1.
Updating to version R02
Status OK.

I'm guessing this brought it up to version 3.1 per the sheet

Later when I attempted to run the PCM update again it said none of the systems needed updating.

As for the Nav DVD, yes, there are more POI's (the Porsche dealer has a little Porsche crest at their location) and it seems there are more local roads in the system but the 2 roads closest to me are still not in the system. The main road in my development is still not in MapQuest so I can't expect it to be in NavTech but the other 2 roads should be.

A few Nav Update questions:

Can anyone post a picture of the new look of the map screen? Several people have said their map screen is different. I just had the dealer install the new Nav update, but my map screen looks the same.

Does anyone know which POI categories are new? I didn't see any specifics posted on what categories are new. I now see Post Office which I did not have before, but I was parked in front of a Post Office that's been here forever and it can't find it (or any other Post Office for that matter).

And Last, how can I tell that the PCM software updates were installed properly? I see people referencing B/C but what value in the Software versions screen will reference that?

Thanks up front for the help!
