Default Trailer, Brake Control questions

Hi guys I am looking to buy a trailer to tow my 996TT to the track and I am going with an aluminum one to keep weight down, but I hear there are issues with LED lights and brake controller compatabillity. My question is what trailers/brake controllers have Cayenne owners had success with? Any help on the matter would be much appreciated!

Good grief, let the dead man rest.

There's nothing his decomposing corpse could add that hasn't already been posted.

I'm 100% sure a post would answer ANY question regarding LED lights and/or brake controllers in a Cayenne, including photos, install instructions with part numbers, etc. Keep in mind, most of the late Larry's posts were done with a #2 pencil in between his teeth, strapped down to the bed, typing on a laptop.

Someone please get the address for the person who started this thread. We need to send him a pair of Maglites, a case of D batteries and a roll of racer's tape. Of course if SOMEONE would organize the T shirt, we'd send him one as well.
Maybe we should put Dell in charge, after all, he was the one who brought a friend to the "vacation villa".

LED lights......there is no issue.......just ask PCNA.......or search court documents

I thought the forum was sitting a bit lower in the water.

Of course the immediate thought was that it was due to the massive influx of Cayenne owners, NOT the fact that we MAY be taking on a LITTLE bit of water.
No need to panic, since this forum, much like the Cayenne, is unsinkable.

In all seriousness (I can't believe I still use that word in a Cayenne forum ), if your forum guest hasn't run away (and who would blame him.....everyone at one time or another wants to run away from a Cayenne) and still has a question that a search can't answer, I guess I can dig up Larry from the grave yet again.

LED's = ! (I am waiting for the official SNL Point Counterpoint response from PCNA Legal.....so let me start......PCNA, you ignorant ****).....

Prodigy (with JFScheck workaround/install:
https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-955-957-2003-2010/189872-cayenne-prodigy-brake-controller-install-with-pictures.html
....before they removed the brake switch....hey, what happened to the brake switch) = OK.....else !,
otherwise just a plain vanilla electric brake controller and no !

Answer: Installing Trailer Brakes:
QTY: PARTS:
2 000979228
1 1J0972782
1 Brake Controller

Get the first two items from a Volkswagon Dealer or here:
http://worldimpex.com/parts/genuine-...mi_149563.html
http://worldimpex.com/parts/genuine-...ng_123320.html

Porsche does not carry the connectors or wires (what a surprise).
You can get the controller from your local trailer store or online from
ETRAILER.COM.

First, remove under tray panel under dash on driver side.
Find 20 torx in center of panel and remove it.

Drop panel down and look for a 4 prong square connector on left side of dash, hanging off of main harness. Might be wrapped with grey foam.

Install the ends of the wires 0009799228
in the 4 slots in the connector, part number 1J0972782.

CONNECTOR IN CAR: WIRE COLOR:

TERMINAL 1: BROWN
TERMINAL 2: RED Check fuse box right
F19, make sure it has a 30 AMP fuse in it.
TERMINAL 3: BLACK/ RED
TERMINAL 4: BLUE

WIRING TO CONTROLLER:

TERMINAL 1: GROUND
TERMINAL 2: B+ POWER ALL THE TIME
TERMINAL 3: STOP LIGHT
TERMINAL 4: TRAILER BRAKE

Good luck, your life as you once knew it will self destruct in 5 seconds (side effect of Cayenne ownership).....

Unless you feel you REALLY need electric brakes, consider going low-tech and just get a trailer with a hydraulic brake actuator. That's what the guys at Trailex recommended for me, and it has kept the trailering life very simple!

Feeling particularly gracious today, are we???? Meds are finally starting to leach out of the system, I suspect. You may want to check on your refill at WalMart.

BTW - did you ever pursue that Stand21 suit?

Sorry, weak moment....was thinking about the late Larry (RIP) and I had a weak "help out a Cayenne owner" moment.
I believe what was posted is factually correct....including the PCNA/SNL reference.....

OT, unfortunately I didn't pursue the Stand21 Porsche suit....I am not driving for a while, so it kind of slipped off the 'things to do list'

Sorry, but I must be missing something.
Why would you not expect trailer brakes to work in both forward AND reverse?

"Surge" brakes work only on forward deceleration.

Yes I'm new here but I have done my homework reading older posts on this topic. For instance, I know I need to your the Draw-Tite Activator instead of the industry standard Prodigy brake controller and Porsche Techquipment ball at an extra cost.

Here's a new question.....my '08 Cayenne has LED tail lights and so does my new trailer.....will they work together or do I still need the U-Haul part that necessitates the "Check !" on the dash?
