Too many cranks on the first start of the day, then it starts perfect all day, 2008 Cayenne S - 8 cylinder. What do you think?

My '09 Cayenne S started failing on the first start each day, but would start great after that. Battery was going south; replaced it with a new AGM battery.

I put a brand new battery in two weeks ago. Its not the battery. It has good cranking power.

It cranks strongly on the first failed attempt? That would rule out the starter. I had a weak starter that cranked, well, weakly on the first try then would crank strongly on the second try.

If it does crank strongly I would think it's the check valves in the in-tank fuel pumps and it needs to build fuel pressure to start. Oh, and this is the DFI version so there could be something with the HPFP.

It cranks quiet a few times before it starts. Then it starts all day fine

if it always starts eventually could be fuel leak down overnight

Sounds like the high pressure fuel pump. Mine was exactly the same. A scan showed "high pressure fuel pump starting pressure too low." Do a scan with a quality scanner and see what turns up.
