There is every indication that this installation could be performed by a patient do-it-yourselfer. This does NOT require a PST2 to let the vehicle know that new hardware is present.
So, for someone willing to remove body panels and pull most of the vehicle apart, this could be done without the dealership.
Good job Toby. The CDR23 vehicles can now be setup with an integrated telephone solution. The PCM2 vehicles must still have operators who can safely navigate with one hand on the wheel and one hand on the telephone.
Just imagine how much easier this would be if Porsche did NOT create a VIN-specific wiring harness and instead built the vehicle with ALL the wires and connectors required for each option. Just imagine moving the passenger seat forward and plugging the phone module into the vehicle and then snapping the cradle into the console.
My two cents are that I would pay the extra $20 to $30 dollars on my $100K vehicle for Porsche to build it with that configuration. I don't see the value in Porsche requiring the vehicle to be dismantled and reassembled, just to add a missing option.

And trust me, I agree that it would make sense to pre-wire the vehicle for all then-known options. Perhaps this is a legacy of a penny-wise/pound-foolish approach to manufacturing that was necessary in the early days. Who knows.....

But yes, step 12.8 of the phone preparation instructions state to use the PST2 to enable the telephone for the CDR23.

Cradles seem to average around $85 or so.
