Post No Analog Phone Input to PCM2

The external audio input connector, which is used for the CDR23, does NOT work for the PCM2. This has now been tested and it was found to not function.

As previously identified, the mute input does work with the PCM2. A contact / wire may be added to the power connector, pin 3, to actuate this function. The mute input is pulled to ground to activate the mute. An NPN transistor is commonly used, but a relay may be substituted.

The attached image shows the power connector, plug A. This connector has a yellow contact retainer, that must be removed, prior to adding or removing contacts. The first image is the normal, closed position. The next image is the partially removed position, after prying it from the connector body.

The next image shows the 1319.116-276 Telephone Audio Cable Kit, available from Becker for $16.50. It includes the plug A connector wire and the audio input wire, but not the green plug C connector.

The next image shows the 1246.569-277 green plug C connector, available from Becker for $0.40. This would be required to connect the telephone audio to the CDR23.

The final image shows the PCM2 display, while mute is driven. If the lower right **** is pressed, the audio remains muted, but the display returns to normal. BTW, the CD player does NOT pause, like when using the steering wheel mute pushbutton.

the 3 jacks i've highlighted in the picture below look like the RCA external audio inputs that you refer to in the aformentioned quote.

could these be used to hook up an Ipod? (application is a 2003 Boxster S with MOST/CDR-23)

also, would the functionality be normal ala the 2002 Porsches with AUX-IN Kit from becker, or would it be half assed phone style, with only 1-2 speakers being functional?

has porsche finally released a true aux in solution for MY03 and onward porsches (with CDR-23 at least)?

the saga continues...

Yes, they are RCA receptacles. No, there is no indication that either the CDR23 or the PCM2 has an auxiliary input.

The one red RCA to red and black wires with contacts looks appropriate for the telephone input, that sends the remote voice to the right front door speaker, on the CDR23 only.

well, assuming that there is no direct connection from the CDR-23/PCM2 unit directly to the right front door speaker,

one would have to assume that after whatever is inputted into that one red RCA jack (with red and black wires) that you speak of, it would be passed from the CDR-23 to the AMP and THEN to the speaker?

thus, if the input into that RCA was not just a mono telephone signal, then after the CDR-23 passed the signal into the AMP, the amp would process the signal and play it across all speakers?

It is my understanding that the CDR23 telephone audio input to the CDR23 is routed to the right front door speaker when the mute is driven low.

Yes, through the amplifier then to the speaker. Don't forget the MOST fiber optical interface, from the CDR23 to the amplifier, or the wires, from the amplifier to the speakers.

It has to be monophonic, as there is only one two-pin input, + telephone and - telephone (ground).

It is unlikely that the remote telephone audio would be routed to all speakers. The center roof console microphone could pick up the remote audio causing ringing and feedback. Also, I read that only this one speaker is driven, though I forget where...

2 more things... (im hanging onto what seems like a hopeless idea...)

1. how would the amp know to only send the signal to one speaker

- for example, there is a known and tested method to make the iPod FM modulator that i have (iTrip) to only play a mono signal, but when it reaches the radio and thus the amp, it is played across all speakers, and doesnt result in much audio loss versus stereo mode on the FM modulator.

2. what are the other RCA connectors for?

could there be enough there to get stereo sound into the CDR-23 and thus into the AMP and thus into the BOSE speakers (note plural speakerS)

finally, as we seem to have come to the conclusion that the input into the CDR-23 is passed through the amp and THEN to the speakers, it is hard to believe (yea right ) that the manufactuerers would be so short minded as to only allow a mono source and not provide the neccessary input connections so as to allow stereo sound?

just feeding the discussion maw

It appears that your assesment of being hopeless is accurate.

The head unit communicates to the amplifier through the digital fiber optical MOST interface. The musical data that is sent includes information about the speaker routing, in this case right front.

The 1319.116-276 Telephone Audio Cable Kit includes parts for two applications. This telephone interface and a auxiliary stereo input, used on other head units.

im about to give up, but not quite yet...

(am i the only person that cares about this?!?!! where is everyone)

this solution just seems TOO close and it seems unrealistic that only 1 speaker is capable of being driven. perhaps some button presses/firmware update ala CDR-220 will allow it to utilize the full range of the wiring harness (which from the appearance is obviously capable of the desired functionality)

(on the CDR-220, when one purchases the AUX-IN kit, after plugging everything in, you HOLD the TP button for 8 seconds, and then use the buttons to turn the AUX option from OFF to ON, then turn off and on the radio, this enables another option under CD button called AUX - which uses the aux source)

for example:

this is a picture of a normal becker AUX in kit that was made for the CDR-220 (ie the radio fitted to PRE 2003 models)

it looks identical to your kit.

except that your kit has 2 MORE wires, which would indicate MORE functionality... but not quite the MOST(hahaha get it?)

your kit:

hey come on wingless, im just very desperate in finding a hardwire solution that is OEM.

all im saying is, no one has tried the solution ive proposed, and conceptually it seems to be a realistic solution.

just conjecture for discussion, thats what these forums are for.

no need to get your panties in a bunch over someone perpetuating a reasonable exchange of ideas.
