Great $100 Cayenne Starter Deal
Hey Folks,
I recently replaced my plastic coolant Ts (one was split) on my 2004 Cayenne Turbo. While I was in there I changed out my starter with a Bosch reman unit direct from Amazon. It was only $185, compared to over $1,000 from the local Porsche dealer, and there is an $80 core rebate if you send in your old starter using their prepaid shipping label and the box the reman starter comes in (ok, so its $105 not $100). I was a little skeptical about such a low price on the starter considering how much the OEM one from the dealer costs but since it was a genuine Bosch branded starter sold directly by Amazon I figured I could always send it back if it looked like a crap reman job. I have to say I was very impressed with this starter. It arrived in a solid Bosch branded box and the unit looked brand new with all the Bosch seals and labels in place and it was an exact match to the old starter I pulled out of my Cayenne. I had been dealing with weak cranking and that annoying, intermittent, "try once and get a quarter crank and then try again to get a full start" problem so I knew I needed a starter but I never imagined how fast the Cayenne cranks over and starts with a proper working starter! While I can't speak to longevity yet, the starter seems like the real deal so far and includes the Bosch two year warranty. Pretty sweet deal if you need a starter.

I wanted to provide a quick update on this repair. Two years and 15,000 miles later and the starter is still going strong. The Cayenne cranks like new every time, hot or cold. This is perhaps the best deal I have come by on all my Cayenne Turbo repairs to date. If you are doing any repair where you have access to the starter and it has never been replaced, or you have slow cranking, or intermittent no cranking I would recommend doing this replacement while you are in there. Thanks
Jeff

On thing on "rebuilt" Bosch electrical stuff - a lot of times, it's actually brand new. Bosch can't undercut the OE supply link through the dealers, so selling brand new starters for a reasonable price won't happen, but they can sell rebuilt starters for whatever they want to, and who is going to complain if rebuilding the starter consists of boxing up a brand new one. BTDT on starters and alternators from Bosch. There is no way a "rebuilt" one looks as good as these do.

Strange. Yesterday it was $72 and now as Libast pointed out, it's $242...they must have dynamic pricing. At $72, it's worth having one on the shelf for a spare. At $242, not so much.

Some sneaky son of a gun bought one to put on the shelf as a spare, and now the deal is gone. There were 3 available per AZ yesterday, 2 today.
Besides, anyone know if the starter is same for V6/S/TT? The Bosch number seems different.
