Default New diverters. Oil all over top of engine

I put back in the Swedish diverters and went for a drive. Come home and there’s oil all over the top of the engine. Both diverters are intact, the turbo hoses are not leaking, and the boost was there all the way home. Only went for two miles. I noticed the dipstick was out. I did top up the oil earlier. Maybe I didn’t put the dipstick all the way back in? Any ideas?

Natural to point at the last thing that happened as the culprit, but maybe it's just coincidence, dip stick and diverters. When I was spraying oil all over my hood all of a sudden, it was the timing chain cover.

I’m going to the car wash now and take a quick drive. I’ll see if it does it again. I didn’t lose much oil at all.

Cleaned the whole motor. I let it warm up. Took it for a run and I still have full boost. No oil lost. Of course a little puddle underneath from last night. Although I got an add antifreeze light now. My mechanic who is a buddy of mine came by just now and said it’s not that low and it’s coincidence. He checked and there’s no antifreeze in the oil. He wants to do a leak down test though. Whew. I’ll keep and eye on it and post back. Any other input would be great too.

Perhaps a clue as to the year and model of your Cayenne might result in some better input.

Oops! Sorry! It's a 2006 CTT with a Softronic tune.

Came home tonight and added antifreeze. The oil doesn't look right but I forgot I put that Ceratec in it. So it doesn't look good to start with. I started the motor and no white smoke came out. I'm going to go for a drive tonight for about 30 mins and see if anything acts up. Anything I should look for besides overheating, white exhaust, and coolant down?

When you say the "oil doesn't look right" - can you elaborate? White smoke is only a sign of a coolant leak into a cylinder. It won't smoke if it's coolant into the oil..

Are you certain that was oil that you saw all over the engine compartment? Might it have been coolant?

FWIW - you actually should never have to add coolant to a properly functioning cooling system. Unfortunately - the complexity of the Cayenne cooling (and heating) systems provide ample opportunities for leaks. It's not common for coolant to leak into the oil, but the V8 engine does have an oil/coolant heat exchanger (designed to keep the oil from exceeding the engine coolant temperature, and also to help the oil to heat up to operating temperature more quickly) that has on rare occasions been known to leak. Sometimes it's an external leak - but I have also heard of coolant to oil leaks.

You may want to draw some oil out through the dipstick hole - and leave it in a glass or plastic bottle overnight. If coolant is mixed in the oil it should separate and form a distinct layer if left undisturbed overnight.

Thanks for all the info. It was oil all over the top of the motor. The dipstick was popped out. I have Ceratec in the engine oil and it gives the milky look. I have no oil or antifreeze on the floor. But I'll drain some oil into a glass tonight. Should I use a fluid pump to pull it out or can I drain a little from a drain plug? If it does separate, is it the head gasket?

Update. Looks like I totally overfilled the coolant tank. I bet I was maybe 1/2 a litre low. The oil is fine. Crappy lighting the garage made it look worse. I went on the highway for about 30 mins and kicked in the turbo full a few times. Boost was good. Coolant temp stayed steady at 180 and the oil temp stayed at 200. I guess I just didn't put my dipstick in far enough and it pissed oil everywhere. I cleaned the engine before I took it for a drive and got home with no oil or antifreeze drips. The antifreeze stayed at full. It's been sitting for an hour in the garage and nothing dripping. I will keep an eye on it. I guess it could have been all a coincidence, who knows? But thanks for input.
