a local CTTS presents with this service record from (90k to 110k) below - is a quart of oil every 1k miles considered high, or an indication of anything? It has 120k miles now - so there is a 10k gap in the meticulous record keeping, the current owner purchased this from his boss, the guy who kept these notes. He may have more info, going to see it on THURS this week. Any thoughts?

Even though 1 Qt/1,000 miles is probably within Porsche's oil consumption spec, none if my Porsches use this much oil, not even the 928 that also leaks it out slowly.

I'd definitely do my due diligence on this one with a more extensive than normal PPI since you have a Northeastern vehicle (assuming Manhattan Motorcars is in NYC) for at least some part of its life, and some oil consumption, which could be a sign of scored cylinder bores, or could be nothing, but bore scoring is definitely more prevalent in cars used during the winter months in cold weather climates.

Dunno if NYC really counts as a cold region for these engines. The ones that seemed attributable to cold were in places like Canada, Dakota (they're dropping the "North"), Alaska. Where it REALLY gets cold, like below 0F for some period of time.

If I counted right - it's used 7 quarts of oil in 20,000 miles. That would be about 3,000 miles/quart. That's certainly considered acceptable. Perhaps I missed some oil changes in there, but I don't think so. Porsche did have a 20,000 mile change interval on at least the '06 V8 engines in the US. Not sure about the '09. One thing that comes to mind - the 958 V8 turbos also were known to be oil eaters when they first came out. My '11 CTT (I have service records back to mile 11) - regularly used a quart in less than 1,000 miles. The service records show the first owner stopping by the dealer for oil quite regularly. That stopped around mid-2012 when Porsche did a service campaign to replace the oil/air separator. Since that was done - it's more like a quart in 7-10,000 miles (depends on how I'm using it..) Since I typically change at 5,000 mile intervals - I don't add any oil between changes. The early 958 turbo shared the problem the 957 turbos had of oil accumulating in the port side intercooler and associated plumbing. That also isn't an issue since the oil/air separator was replaced. If might be worthwhile for 957 turbo owners to look into the parts interchangeability with the later model turbos. In this case - unlike some of the Cayenne engines - the oil/air separator was available as a part - not just as part of the entire valve cover for that side. I guess that's because Porsche was paying for them.

I would not call these meticulous notes. He leaves some important data out like part numbers and/or details about specifics ie. which check valve was replaced? The big questions you need answers to are:

1. Why is the current owner really selling?
2. Has the oil consumption increased over time?

Definitely get a PPI and make sure they do a compression test.

Interesting about the AOS resolving the oil vapor condensing in the driver's side intercooler. The catch can I'm planning to install should accomplish the same thing, but it a newer style 958 AOS will do the same thing and fits in the factory AOS location, that's a cleaner solution. I've sent Ryan at Suncoast a note about the potential retrofit and will let you know what he comes back with on using the 958 Turbo AOS in a 957 Turbo.

FYI - Ryan is no longer at Suncoast, but got a note back from Aldo. The AOS setups on the 957 and 958 are completely different where the 957 AOS is integrated into the valve cover (component of part #14) whereas the 958 has a separate AOS (part #1) so it looks like I'll be sticking with my plans of using the Catch can setup.

AND THE WINNER IS:

Following up on my original post - I have just purchased a 2005 CTT, 100k miles, local-ish car (Sacramento), reasonable documentation. Coolant pipes and Cardan shaft done, recent t'stat, all new tires, new brakes.

Here's the build sheet https://rennlist.com/forums/vindecod...inDecoderFarea

Nicely equipped, metallic Black, w/ Peanut Butter interior. Might be the deal of the century - or at least close: $10,800.

Thanks for your help and guidance on this purchase - I'll have some more questions in a bit!! Going to do a full maintenance / service on it so I have a starting point with everything fresh.

Best part of all, my wife's quote after her first solo: "WHAT A SEXY BEAST THIS CAR IS!! LOVE YOU"

Cheers

Peanut Butter? I think you mean Havana/Sand Beige.

I have the same color. I wouldn't have bought black if I had had a choice, but it was too good of a car to pass up.

That's a pretty decent price, but that's what they are going for.

Congrats.

Post pics. Yes, we know what a black/tan 05 looks like.
We don't care, we want to see yours.

Hello, I am looking at buying a used Cayenne, and want to do my due diligence; I am interested in how you pulled the above data?
