6'6"... am I looking in the wrong place?
hello all,
I have been lurking around here for a while, but I may be in the market for a car by summer time so i'm just doing some research.
I just picked up a 2001 BMW 330Ci. The car itself is awsome, however the Drive-by-wire throttle is getting frustrating and the soft hydro clutch is also a little to vauge for my tastes. I have always wanted a roadster and to top that, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Boxster S.
My main concern is that i'm 6'6" and i remember driving a normal Boxster and having trouble with leg room. First of all, what are some things that could be done to free up more room (head and leg room). I remember how that center console that sits below the stereo system was in my way, I am thinking its removeable, but could anyone confirm this?
My other option is a C5 convertible. I currently also have a mustang that i'm setting up for AutoX duty so I dont know how I'd like to have two V8 cars in my stable.
Well all thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

A solution that has worked pretty well for tall people is to buy GT3 seats, and the Brey Krause tall-man adaptor for the seats. This will keep your head below the roll bar. This will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $3K if you buy both a driver and a passenger seat.
The center console is removable and you can buy something called the GT3 center console delete kit (it's fairly cheap if I remember right) and it should free up some leg room.

My choices right now are used Boxster S or used C5 Vette Convertible. after all I am only 21 and I would like to have "room to grow" as I get older, in terms of car choices... Buying a 996 right now would seriously kill my choices, short of other 996/911 models.
I have been thinking that maybe a Vette convertible would be a better choice, but it still doesn't have the feel of a Porsche. That big heavy V8 up front really takes away to the balance that the mid engined boxster has to offer. Damn this height!!!

It must depend on how you're built. I'm also 6'6", and I fit comfortably in a boxster. The center console delete is definitely possible, and would be on my list of things to do. I've never seen the GT3 seats in person, but I do know the factory "Lowering seats" option makes a big difference for me.

DGI, I am shorter than you (6'3"), but I have a 993 and 928, and formerly had a vette. My head touches the headliner in the 993, but the 928 seems plenty roomy to me--you could try driving one--there are some great 928s out there for the $$. I test-drove a 996 recently, and there was a LOT of room over my head (maybe 3-4"), as well as plenty of elbow room. Good luck.

I'm 6'4" I rode as a passenger once in a C5 and felt uncomfortable (as in my legs were a bit cramped). I don't think I would be very comfortable driving one. Have you driven a C5 yet???

The 951 has a large following of tall people that will praise it. The 951 easily has boxster matching capabilites, and much cheaper, and sooo much HP potential. Like 400 RWHP for around 4 grand extra. 951=944 turbo. The handeling is superb, and you have that special porsche feel there too.

i'm 6'4 and 270 pounds. my primary reason for getting a 996 over a 993 was that the 993 was just a little too tight. i'm built very stocky (52" chest) so i need a car with good shoulder room in addition to good leg room. i actually drive with my seat 1/2" short of all the way back in my 996. i only push it all the way back on long drives.
i don't recall ever sitting in a vette, so i can't offer my opinions on those.
