2002 s with 52k on the clock. very nice shape.
the car was advertised for 19k, and he says i can have it for 17k. I just got the ppi done and it needs the rms and all 4 cv boots replaced. The total cost for the repairs is $2500.
Would it be unreasonable to offer 14500?
also it needs an inspection in april,
alignment
brake fluid flush(i can do)
and the side spark plug tubes are leaking, most likely i can do them also.
please help..........

just spoke with the owner and went over the ppi. I mentioned about the repairs and their cost. He lowered his price to split the difference on the repairs, so he said 16k, and i said i am thinking 15.5 and we'll call it even.
He'll call me in an hour

Sounds like the car was not well maintained.
I hope that the "estimate" to fix turns out to be true and that those $ fix all the immediate problems.
It is easy to get fixated on a specific car or the first car. In this market, there are hundreds more out there and sellers are desperate.
I value my '01S with less miles and no issues at lots less than you'll be paying in total. I didn't last year but this market is just different.

it does need a rms and cv boots. everything else came out with flying colors.
Typical rms issue and cv boots are iffy on a lot of used cars, so i am not really worried.

thanks for the support, everything else is just routine maintenance and that cost doesn't really bother me. It will help me get aquainted with my new toy and all of her moving parts

Many here have said that if the RMS leak isn't a big leak, that it's better to wait until you need a clutch and do them both at the same time. If the leak is bad, maybe have them check the clutch too. I had a small leak on my 80 911SC but it didn't amount to much and never had it fixed. I had mentioned it to my mechanic and he said it wasn't a big leak and not to worry about it.

Torn CV boots seem common on the six speed transmissions, so I wouldn't be surprised if if a lot of the "S" models need their boots replaced.
Good luck with it and have fun.
