Default Rollbar Available for '05?

I met a fellow at our PCA meeting who has a 2005 Boxster that he would like to take to a DE event. He does not have a hardtop and he has heard that the rollbar extensions for MY2005 Boxsters is different than for earlier cars, and that the extension is not yet available.

Can you offer some advice that I can pass on to him?

E-mail sent twice, but no response. Trying the phone now, but has anyone here figured it out?

I was at a DE event at WGI last July and there was at least one 987 there. I don't recall it having a hardtop and it appeared to be stock. Are you sure 987's can't run stock like the 986's?

It's the broomstick rule--he is too tall for the OEM rollbar, so he needs the extension.

BK isn't too good with emails, call them, they are plenty helpful then.

Default The answer

Just talked with Sam at B-K. Porsche made three changes for the 2005 Boxster relevant here: the rollbar extends up 1-1/2" more, the diameter of the rollbar was increased and the seat was lowered. The short of it is that B-K is not planning to produce an extension becasue there is no place for it to go--too little clearance between the OEM rollbar and the top--and it should not be necessary anyway.

I'll get my friend to check his car for compliance with the broomstick rule!
