having spent some time talking to kevin, I'm starting to generally understand how the Motronic unit works on this car and how the fail safes act. Whats crazy to me is how much knock retard is happening on a stock motor, stock tune, 93 octane car. Normally I would expect close to zero, but thats not how this car operates.

I have a few minutes to look at your dyno sheet.

The engine HIT a limiter and shut down the throttle body.. At around 4K. This happens on all Tippy's.. With that said, the pump gas file really did well. If you look at each RPM datapoint. IT had better numbers.. Pump 2424 RPM, load 91.78, MAF 326.50 vs Race 2416 RPM, load 69.30 MAF 239.7

3510 RPM, Load 147.91 MAF 789.4 3547 Load 145.88 MAF 833.50

4515 RPM Load 190.20 MAF 1206 4561 RPM Load 187.41 MAF 1132

5506.5 RPM Load 179.04 MAF 1385 5512.5 RPM, Load 178.03 MAF 1368

What folks must realize is, these engines have limiters.. The engine load limiter, boost limiter, EGT limiter, coolant limiter, IAT limiter.. Safeguards are in place to prevent rods from bending or restrictions for power output. The load is limited on the RACE gas file. The load is limited on the pump gas file. I would venture a guess, that the engine will have MORE output with a 50/50 race gas/pump gas fuel blend running the pump gas file! And this can be proven on a street pull netting higher LOAD output AND MAF output.

Thank you, good info and confirms my suspicion that the car seems to run better on the pump file. Just out of curiosity, what is it about the tips that cause it to hit a limiter where the manuals don't? All the limiters you mention look like they should apply to either car equally. Is there an easy way to figure out what limiter I'm hitting at 4k rpms? Looking at load, boost, coolant, IAT, etc. it doesn't look like I'm getting anywhere outside the norm. Just curious. THanks!

The engine is reporting the LOAD. (load is "also" limited in the mapping). You can graph the load numbers against your dynosheet.. It looks like the race file just increased timing by roughly 2 to 4 degrees BUT capped the load levels in certain RPM area...

The tippy's don't like to be strapped to dyno's.. 996TT and 997TT have always showed these issues.

Get out on the street and do a pull in manual mode and compare your load and throttlebody position.

You also need to speed up your laptop or grab a I7 with and shut down all the unwanted processes.. Minimum sensor selections.. RPM, load, throttle, MAF, ignition timing, lambda Bank 1 and Bank 2 Actual boost. Injector duty would be nice

Unbelievably it's going to be almost 70 degrees this weekend so I can get a few pulls in with the durametric. What are the most important things to log to try and figure out why the car is pulling timing at 4000k.
