Default V1 Hardwire via the Fuse Box

hi guys -- im new to rennlist as i recently picked up a 997.2 turbo. lovin' the car so far, as i'm getting to know it weekly.

im trying to lock in my V1 hardwire install and was searching archives both here and on 6speed. i have everything i need to do this install (as i have dont it before with other cars) but just confused on which fuse slot i should tap into as im using the 'fuse tap' / 'add-a-fuse' which i got from autozone.

what i need to know is which fuse location i should target with the fuse tap and if any additional fuses need to go into the 2 open slots of the fuse tap itself. i do have access to the little white fuse book that is behind the main fuse panel. but before i just shoving that fuse tap into the wrong places, i wanted to make sure.

if i missed a thread on this, please pass it along or any additional help would greatly be appreciated!

while i didn't try taping into the rear view mirror, i didn't like this approach. probably cause i never did it before and was comfortable going to the fuse box since i have gone that route with my cars and their V1 install.

to close the loop on this i ended up pulling the 7.5amp fuse for slot Row C, F9.

according to the fuse diagram (i have a 2010 911 Turbo) this fuse was related to the Tiprtronic control (specific to the 997) but i have a PDK car.

it was a switched fuse that allowed the V1 to turn off when there was no key in the 'on' spot or the car actually on. the V1 is on when the key is in the 'on' spot or the car is indeed on. exactly what i wanted.

with the add a fuse - i used a mini 7.5amp fuse on the 'back' open slot (since i pulled a 7.5amp fuse from Row C, F9) and another mini 5amp fuse in the 2nd open slot.

so far, all is working just how i wanted it!

I haven't tried the fuse box method. But you can also buy a kit from V1 that wires it to the obd port and runs the power directly from there. Simple, elegant and once you hide the wires it's very clean

I wired my V1 to the fuse box.

Here Are a few links with directions with pics that I found:

If I understand this correctly, this is a way to connect also a dash cam on the window?
Pictures show a radar, but this also work for a dash cam.

I did something similar to this: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...with-pics.html

But took it a little further with hiding the wiring and not just putting it under the weather strip. I ran the wire between a small opening between the dashboard and body. I also ran it through the dash, and along the factory wiring down to the fuse box. For the wiring going to the detector, I ran it along the factory wiring in the a-piller (u cant even notice it if u arent really looking for it) and then across the top of the windshield under the headliner.

Lastly, i used a small round file to file the edge of the fuse box and make a groove where the wire coming from the fuse tap comes out so that there is no pressure on the wire.

nice job bmwtye! i like the route you went.

what did you do with the 2 slots in the add a fuse connected? which mini fuses did you add to those slots and which fuse did you plug it into?

i noticed in the pics i saw in other posts of where to tap into all were different that what i was seeing in my 997.2T, so that is where my hiccup was. however since installing, no issues since and happy i got the V1 in the turbo.

Plug the Add-A-Fuse into an open keyed ignition on and off fuse slot. The open slot on a Turbo is Fuse Slot C-5, this is open keyed ignition on off for most of the 997’s. The two slots hold 3 amp fuses.

There is a 10mm nut near the fuse panel, remove that, attach the ground post from the hardwire kit and fasten the 10mm nut back in place locking in the ground post creating a ground.

You can get the hardwire kit from G Rides. It comes with everything you need including the fuses: http://www.gridesinc.com/

Custom etched fully functional auto dim factory mirror with hidden hard wired v1. Not cheap.

TT Surgeon -- that looks amazing. But the price probably would make me cry.

I think it was about 1500 installed, don't quote me though. But I know it was less if he uses your v1 and mirror. Pm Gus at technik1.
