997.2 911 Turbo or Turbo S- Why would you try to extract more HP?
With 0-60 of 2-7-2.8 why would you mess with perfection, outside of a Veyron pulling up on you at a stoplight...

could well be. it's taste and colors. there are plenty of faster 0-60 cars than stock 997.2tt/tts around. in terms of handling, the car is simply too heavy - suspension (re)work required is extensive and likely only "usable" on track. while fuel/engine tune-up is relatively easy but as you said the biggest risk are the warranty and the guy doing the tuning. engine maps are historically conservative (vs. optimal performance wise) on turbo (and porsche) cars - one of the reasons being stringent OEM emissions caps and lower grade fuels around.

It's more the risk:benefit of letting someone 'tune' your ECU (not talking exhaust, headers) on a $150k/car.
If you're tracking, easier to start with a well-worn Cayman, or even Miata...But hey, I know guys who track Mercedes E55...

im sure someone will care enough to jump in and list a few of the cars as well as point to nordschleife and maybe some 1/4 mile times. the list wont be complete - at least when in comes to the forum crowd - without including say uk vmax cars or some from moscow run or taking a look at some builds that been done or going on in GT2/GT3 section. but then 997 TTS is the fastest, bestest car in the world and anyone who modifies and races porsches is a heretic and deserves the 997 TT forum hell
any car is a compromise between the manufacturer and its destined owner. just because you spend 150k$ to buy it doesnt mean you cant strip it to the shell, spend another 200k$ to fit it more to your needs.

I have a friend with a 1200hp Viper. He loves it and it will rip the paint off my Turbo. Oh well.

ok, this is bit dated but relevant. note the cargraphic (rs tuning) 997.1tt package (modified VTGs, secan coolers, tune + exhaust - all in all minor bolt-ons update). rs tuning ran the race supported 3 cars (engines) in this year's 24h Nurburgring race - ie. not the name you ever likely to run into advertizing exhausts on rennlist. same package but with 3.9l upgrade on the engine runs deep into sub 20s - Toby's GT2 car comes to mind (search for best VTG build on GT2/GT3 forum section).

cuz I'm struggling to think of many at all....
By the way, the 3.9l 7GT2 you mention wouldn't get close to a tts pdk 0-60.
