Yes, you will get killed on the trade.
No, you shouldn't do it. New engine, new block, questionable whether it will be as bulletproof as our GT1 block. I looked at the specs when they announced the 2010, and quickly concluded that I am very happy I got my '09 and glad I didn't wait.

I've been driving Porsches for many years and, without exception and whatever the model, the new one has always been better than the old one. Porsche are very clever and they are always improving the product. And, I'm sure the new TT engine will be just great.
Of course, whether the cost to change is justfiable is up to the individual. It rarely makes sense. But, if we were all sensible we would never change our cars.
I have a 36 year old 911 that is just as good as the day it left the factory and just as much fun. But, things have progressed, and if you want the latest and the best, then you'll need to keep reaching for your cheque book.
C'est la vie !
In the meantime, maybe this will help http://www.autocar.co.uk/VideosWallp...AR=244041&CT=V

Fact is, there are many wealthy people who've never had a turbo who will want to buy the 2010 turbo because "they just have to have it", price being no real issue. Then, there are 997 owners, who always get the upgrade as a matter of course, because that's what they do, price being no real issue. Then, there are the owners of the 997TT, looking at the next iteration that is quite underwhelming in all respects, who don't like the idea of being "killed" on the trade in, and would prefer waiting until something startling and really inspiring comes out. That means wait until 2015 when Porsche wakes up to the competition and does some real homework to produce a TT thats a 'must have'. I don't have a 997, but I do have a 996 Ruf Turbo, and I'm not incentivized to jump for the 2010TT as much as I love porsche. I just want more for my money than what they are offering now.

Interestingly, Porsche always leaves something good behind with each new model, in addition to adding new stuff that everyone wants. That's why I would happily own every single 911 Turbo that they've ever made. I can't say that for too many cars -- the only other model like that I can think of (where each one is better than the last, but I'd take one of each generation) is the M3.

Keep your TT.
If you bought new, for the hit you'll take on trade, you could go out and buy a brand spanking new Audi A5 Cabrio to DD to work...
Scary. Really scary.
