Default Filling up the Gas Tank

I have a problem that when I fill up the gas tank it only goes up to roughly 3/4 full before the pump auto shuts off. I have tried waiting a minute and trying to top off, but it shuts off almost immediately. Any one else have this problem?

My salesman said that the gas tank is split in AWD cars and you have to wait for the gas to slowly trickle to the other side (new TT is my first AWD). Nevertheless, I still have trouble sometimes getting it completely full, but I guess this is just a design quirk in the car.

I get it <10% of fill ups. More so when I am closer to empty. Varies among stations and pumps.

It is a federal conspiracy to get TT drivers to drive less.

I've never had that but the split tank thing might explain a strange experience I had a while back: The needle had just reached the reserve level where the light goes on, and the miles to empty said something like 43. I stopped at a gas station that I didn't want to fill up at for some reason (91 instead of 93 maybe?). Anyway, I put about 2 or 3 gallons in, got back in the car and the needle and the miles to empty had not budged a bit.

Try turning the nozzle in the opposite direction so that the handle is pointing upward. This has worked for a number of 996TT guys.

Gauge needs to be recalibrated that’s all, should have been done at PDI

I don't think it's a dealer PDI. I've had my car for three weeks now and the tank fills to capacity approx. 20% of the time with no problem. The other 80% of the time the pump handle will "click off" and I will try to put in more with 3 or 4 more "clicks.
When I start the car the gauge shows 3/4's of a tank.

Sounds like mine. It's not the guage calibration. Messed with mine last night and I think I finally filled it, but only after the pump handle clicked off a dozen times, and after waiting between tries, moving the handle to different angles, etc.

Ok so the gauge reads 3/4 of a tank at the pump. What does it read ohhh 15 min later, Full? I have noticed it alot on the cars right of the truck. I think the answer is, it is normal as long as it reads full after a few minutes of driving. I have noticed it on all the cars. 997TT, 997, 987, CAYMAN, If it never reads full then you have a problem. Possible calibration issue or fueling issue.

On the AWD cars, the fuel level sender only reads down to approx 1/4 tank. From 1/4 to empty is a calcualted value performed by the DME based on a map(throttle position, RPM, Load etc). So when you only put in 2-3 gallons, the car never detected it beacuse it did not go over 1/4 tank and move the fuel level sender.
