The new 3.8 direct injection turbo

Sorry, but any new engine has a LONG way to go to live to the standard set by the M64/GT1 derived lump.....a very long way to go.
Look at the history and reliability of the M64/GT1 derivatives.....IMHO it is one of Porsche's best engines of all time.
With respect to PDK, I'm waiting to see how long before Porsche admits "we got it wrong".

I don't think it's a 993 mentallity, the water cooled gt1 derrived engine is 12/24hr endurance race tested, basically unbreakable. The new lump does have a lot to prove, it has a very tough act to follow, kinda like little Richard going on the Ed Sullivan show after Elvis, I believe Elvis' quote to LR was something to the effect "top that ######". Top that 9A1, I'm from Missouri, show me.
The only reason the are putting that motor in TTs and GT cars is the massive price saaving, of course the consumer won't see that savings (20k/car).

They were proven wrong and, I'm confidant, so will you.

If anyone is doubting the M64/GT1 product even though it may be 2 decades old, please remember what is running in all the latest motorsport vehicles from Porsche including the Cups, RSRs and even the new 997.2 GT3 (which was long rumoured to get the 9A1)... These are the cars most prone to the extremes of track use and the 9A1 has not found its way into the *** end of any of these... I think this fact answers everybody's question on which engine Porsche motorsport engineers consider the stronger alternative despite the marketing spin and hype from the marketing department... the 9A1 is about increasing Porsche's profits and not about improved products- case closed for now, i'd say...

Am I the only one who thinks that 40% fewer moving parts is a good thing? Also it's not like the race teams never blow up GT1 engines. And they rebuild them often. I'm not anti GT1, because I drive one.

- the new 9A1 motor has 40% fewer parts than the regular M97 motor it replaced, no comparison has been made to the GT1 block to my knowledge...
- Your run of the mill GT1 motor comes with approx 500hp give/take in a turbo/gt2, tuners out there are extracting close to 1000hp from the same engine with relative reliability... will the new motor allow the same?
- teams do rebuild gt1 motors, this what they were primarily designed for. Even the cylinder liners can be unbolted and replaced. Can the new motor offer the same benefits?- not likely as it is a traditional cast block, so more parts isn't always worse....
-General concensus is that whatever is used by the motorsport division would have to be considered the best motor or they wouldnt use it for racing or 24 hr enduros and the unit they continue to use is the M64/GT1 engine... Thats gotta mean more then any marketing rubbish Porsche spin...
