Do Radar Detectors Really Work for you?

I did as custom and as discrete an install as possible in my 997s Cab of the V1 and don't truly count on it entirely. Putting your license on the line with a TT in America on just a radar detector is highly risky.
Two other factors are of even more importance,--road knowledge and 20-20 vision. (Thank you LASIK), Before I ever go really fast in the USA I make sure I know the road and who is on it.
Personally, however, I got most of the speed obsession out of my system on the autobahns of Germany.

I always use my V1. It has saved me numerous times. I have it mounted on the P-Car, my work truck and my Triumph Sprint motorcycle also, hardwired into my helmet. I use the same unit but purchased spare suction holders for the other vehicles. On the bike it's held on a bar mount with velcro. It has saved me at least 25 tickets in the last 5 years.
I do not find the V1 to be 70's and dated. The display is very functional and it works better than any others out there IMHO. I recently sent it in and for $ 75.00 they did a POP 3 upgrade and re-program. Try that on the other brands. They figure that it will break so a programming upgrade won't be necessary in 5 years. I am not 100% but the V1 may be the only radar that has a rear and forward radar sensor?
Of course you still have to be very aware of your surroundings as it will not save you if you come up on a cop unexpectedly who does not have his radar on.
If the unit saved you twice - it's paid for.

Thanks for all of your replies...it's so great to have this resource...any way...I decided to drop the cash on the K40...the way the cops love to harrass me I presume it will pay for itself in $ and aggravation saved.
I'll take pics and post my thoughts on it once it's done.
I did see Docs V1 in action and its really great so hopefully I didn't just throw my money out the window!

DJ996...Dont get the K40..it doesnt now work (waste of $$$$)..I have tested a black lambo gallardo with the K40 Calibre and it offered no protection against laser and the radar detection is **** poor since the radar sensor is behind the plastic and down low to the ground. I have the V1 and its hard wired in and mounted high out of site with the conceal display low out of eye site. I have a video of that last test.

well the Escort 8500 is still alot better then the K40 any day of the week. I have the V1 hardwired uptop and its gets great radar and laser detection (V1 is best at laser detection). Do you have the 8500 or X50 8500? If you have the X50 are you having trouble with Ka detection? btw nice P-Car.

Look at the lastest post in the General section that I was involved in with testing different laser jammer's. I am happy to help and educate in any way possible and I enjoy helping follow P-Car owners not get tickets and keeping your $$$$ in your wallet.

The V1 is by far and away the most interactive radar detector with an aware driver - when you learn to interpret all of it's signals, you realize it is a great help.
But it is only a help. The K40 system that I have in my turbo is helpful but not at the same level as the V1.
Watch out for the laser cops on Rt 78
