Do Radar Detectors Really Work for you?

Just to let you know...the Escort 9500i can very easily disgard a actual leo running radar in a area that you consider a false and will not be able to tell the difference. Meaning today you go buy a place that you normally drive by and you know it to be just that "Normal" false (Door Opener- K band @ 24.150 freq). and you tell yourself that is just a false alarm and you set your GPS on your 9500i to silence that because it gets on your nerves. But, now tommorrow has come and you drive your P-Car again towards that place that you get a false and your not paying attention and driving alittle faster then normal thinking its safe and as you pass that "Quite False K band Signal" you now see Blue's and Red's and the cop telling you to pull over. Well what just happened is that the Escort 9500i w/GPS can not tell the difference between a police radar and a door opener because the "Tech Feature" is just a tool and is not always accurate. That will earn you a ticket and it has already happened to people and Escort can do nothing about it. Escort was warned long before the 9500i was release concerning this prolem and it has come to light.

The V1 is the way to go. I have the V1 (3.318 ver.) and it has never let down and I run mine in "A" (All threats Mode), If I lived in a area with more non-police noise (door openers and such) I would use "L" (Full Logic" or just "little L" for logic to reduce the false alerts.

V1 and 8500 used extensivly for a couple of years now in different vehicles. Both are good, and if you can tell one is better than another you're better than me. Common sense is also a great idea.
Also have a Blinder for laser-jamming. It is illegal in Illinois so I have to mount it with the hiders. It's a James Bond kinda thing that my wrench installed. He had to notch out the bumper to do it but the install was very trick.
The radar detectors have helped me more times than I can count. I'm not sure if the laser jammer is working or not, but I can tell you that LIDAR caught my wife and I have driven by the tollway cop who nabbed her frequently and he doesn't "seem" to see me so far.
This website has it all;

Had a K-40 and hated it. Way too many false alarms compared to the V1 and 8500.

Very sweet ride, I love those. Can you post close up pics of your install, just by looking at the install I can tell you if the jammer heads would even recieve and jammer a laser signal.

The jammer was in the 997 TT I had. The pictured vehicle is an Exige Cup and for tracking only
I will be putting the Blinder in my CLK 6.3 next week.

a pic before the install, I have seen installer put the heads in some very weird places and the laser jammer didnt work because of the "Stealth install". If you can email to chippedaudi@yahoo.com and I can send you a modified pic back for the best install location for performance.

I have had K40's, V1's, 8500 X50's and am now trying out the 9500i.
The V1 was great with the directionals and very sensitive, but at night I never got used to which sound was which radar, and I did not want to take my eyes off the road to study the LED's to figure out which band I was detecting.
The 8500 X50 was better for night time use, and was obviously not as clunky-looking and dated as the V1, but I did miss the directionals.
The 9500i seems to false alarm less (especially with "laser" which my 8500 was frequently false alarming), speaks to you so you don't have to get used to the different beeps, braps, etc., or take your eyes off the road to check the display, and it also has GPS (so you can check your speed and also program in radar sites...I have not tried the latter yet to see how effective it is). It also has a USB port for progamming in radar sites off your pc or the internet.
My K40 must have been problematic...despite all the good reviews mine never held a candle close to any of the other detectors mentioned here. It was hidden though which was nice.
Do they work?....H*** ya. All mine have paid for themselves within a week of ownership, no matter which one I was using !
Stay alert. Watch traffic patterns. "If I was a patrol officer where would I hide?" Be aware of instant-ons and laser. And above all be safe!
