This thread is becoming comical…. “Cornering the market” …. “It must be illegal”… and then let’s throw in “mezger the best engine forever” for good measure.

just the facts… what, 492 or 488 manual transmission cars…? .2 turbo, last of an era (your call… Porsche owned and developed before VW, before electric steering, before a larger platform, and whatever else…). Figure another 10% of the cars crashed? So maybe 440 cars…. Then split to your preference 192 cabriolets less 10% so for me 160ish MT .2 cars… well that isn’t a lot of cars, so of course the pricing delta between the average car and a nice one (RF example) is going to be quite large…. Nothing more than that… I guess the bud light was flowing on Friday night!

we should all be happy that the cars are finally starting to be appreciated and haven’t tanked like so many other “toys”…. But if you are looking at these as an investment.. you are a fool. If you want to be a “player” go buy yourself a Carerra GT, 918, or a Merc 300SL Gullwing then you will have licked inflation and have value appreciation. In the mean time, I have some Rolex watches I need to dump!

I watched the video and enjoyed it. He's got a good backstory and is a longtime car guy. Sure, he found an opportunity and capitalized on it. I say good for him! He took a risk as things could've gone the other way. Many factors could've played out poorly for him, yet he seems to have landed on his feet and brought the market some incredible examples.

I'm of the age to have remembered vividly when the pre-1990 runup (and subsequent crash) of the collector car market when Ferrari Daytonas (and most Enzo era cars) were flipped by multiple dealers en route to the last person in this musical chairs game. Seriously gross profits (!) were made, markets redefined, values reset, and many who lost as well.

I see no ill for what Ryan has done and in many ways, its not a lot different than what many have done to run successful businesses: finding a gap in the market and filling it. Long live capitalism.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to roll my eyes at the Mezger comment. Didn't they make something like 40k Mezger's? Ok so it's the LS1 of the Porsche world.

@mnawa , was it the same one you bought back? If so, any reason why you decided to sell it again?

EAG is different, I keep explaining this to many people I come from a BMW world. EAG services and refreshes their car, mechanically service. They know each car in and out. This guy is different he's trying to change the market for his own interest true reseller. But I get it. Enthusiast wouldn't like this type of thing, he just talking about how rare the car is. Didn't mention anything about the motor or what makes the car rear besides in a manual 997.2.

That "Long Island" dealer just posted a real unicorn '09 MT spec in case anyone's interested. I can't even guess at the ask.

(Edit - OK here's a link with pics and asking price - no affiliation, etc)

Looks like hell be sitting on that for a while with an asking price of $200k. 18k miles is low but not ultra low. If he does sell it for asking, or close to it, it’ll make me consider selling my ‘09 MT.

Low milage generally means more problems and no issues yet addressed.

Exactly...the buyers looking for low mileage and low mileage only don't seem to get that. I am enjoying my dialed in 68k mile 12 turbo S 😀

55k on my TTS Cab here. I bought it to drive and that's what I'm doing. Let the low mileage buyers have the high priced. low mileage units. Since they aren't really driving their purchases, at least they have have the other joy of ownership: Catching up on deferred maintenance and age related issues that have been left unaddressed. Frankly, as a rising tide lifts all boats, I'm more than happy to have these spendy buyers keep the market chugging upwards!

We definitely benefit!

I'm not sure if this was posted already, but Ryan shared his story on a recent VinWiki video. I had no idea about him prior to this, but his main goal as a dealer is to make a highly collectable and sought after 997.2 turbo market. That he's asking such a high price for the example above is completely consistent with his strategy.
