Default GT3 Shifter Install Question

I installed the GT3 shifter tonight. I would like to keep everything apart until I know it is aligned correctly. There is one wiring connection which I had to disconnect - running from behind the pcm area to the center console. Is there any issue with driving without this connected?

Thx!

Crap sounds like it might mess up my airbag light if I don't reconnect.

Yes, you will get the airbag light if you drive with the center console disconnected. No big deal of you have a scan tool that can clear the SRS codes.

I just put it all back together except for the shifter boot. Was kind of looking forward to the stripper interior look for a few days but oh well.

In terms of the shifter itself I would say it's nothing revolutionary but the shift action is a nice change from the stock unit. Less vague, more deliberate shifts with the metal parts.

Be sure to use the Porsche alignment tool for the cables! Also... while you have it apart..

is that a short shifter? OEM.. I added a metal bushing replacement kit to mine that really made a difference.

Not a short shifter I don't think. Only difference from stock is the metal parts I think.

I would have suggested the short shifter... takes 20% travel off the gate... and then add a metal bearing kit. Not quite Miata... but pretty close.

Here is the metal kit that I installed:

and then I added the yellow transmission mount insert:

I think this is one of the optimum setups for a MT TT.

note that I didn't want to disconnect the wire to the center panel and deal with the airbag light! (bungee cord helper)

well you could always sell the GT3 shifter on ebay.. take a $100 haircut and go the route I described? I did all of the mods the same weekend and then had to go back and use the OEM cable tool properly the next weekend.. DOH!

if you are really looking for sporty maybe go stiffer on the transmission center mount... (they say it adds road noise... but alas in a cab.. that really isn't a concern for me!
