You can't torque this! That is the intermediate shaft. It drives the turbocharger scavenge pump. This design is in place for the 993TT, and 996TT/GT2.
There is a screw/fastner in the front water pump console. Remove it to rotate/align the pump shaft. NOTE: please replace the "green" oring on the pump drive.

Hey Kevin thanks for the quick reply. I’m actually replacing it since the original got a little chewed up with me trying to align it first few times around. I bought a new one and hand tightened it and it’s just sitting in there. Do I just tighten it until it is lightly snug?

Got that easily installed after your guidance on aligning only to be thrown another curveball right after. The threads for an oil line spun out when torquing to 10nm.
There are a number of ways to fix this, is there a preferred method?

Getting close to having the engine work of my project done and will hopefully have some time this weekend to start the clutch work.
I could use some help if someone has some images they can share from their own work. I don’t have a ton of pictures of the below area and want to get the wire/hose routing correct.

Not great but maybe it will keep you moving until someone else has a better one.

Here is the only good one I could find (I have others but they are of various stages of rebuild):

Going to split the transmission from the engine this weekend. Any nuance to be aware of when doing this? Does the engine become unbalanced and risk tipping when the transmission is removed? I'm using the Harbor Freight lift table and planned on doing a couple ratchet straps on the engine to secure it and basically pulling the transmission off to a similar height table right behind the lift table.

I used straps initially and them removed them. If you block the engine and trans, you should be good to go. Straps, as a security. while you are jostling things around is a good idea.

Splitting the transmission and removing the clutch were very straightforward. I need to pull the flywheel and don't have one of those tools to lock it in position. I was thinking about using a small crowbar against one of the bolts to prevent it from turning while I loosen the bolts though I don't really love that idea. Do people mostly buy the tool for this?
