Default decision time: trade my 930?

A good friend, who is also a very successful used car dealer, has been after me to sell him my 1987 930. It is my third one, and I have owned it for about 8 years. A clean, but by no means a flawless car. I have owned the trailer queen type before, and when I bought this one I wanted one to drive and enjoy. It has 67,000 miles and has aftermarket intercooler and headers, aftermarket radio, and strut tower brace, but is otherwise stock. I must admit it is fun to look at, but is barely driven. My friend comes out once a year and tries to buy it. I finally said OK, but only if he can find me a 997tt as a partial trade. I feel an impending sense of dread, imagining my 930 leaving for good, but I would really like a car that I can actually drive and enjoy, rather than one I pretend to drive and enjoy. And, further, I think I want a Tip!! I am 57 years old, and shifting gears just doesn't do it for me that much anymore. Plus, I have a rednceck-mobile (2013 Boss 302 in School Bus Yellow) that I drive about once a month to get the 3 pedal desire out of my system. What to do? I need input. Immediately. Thanks. BT

I've owned both. The 930 is iconic old school and "more" Porsche then today's current models. That said, I would make the jump to a newer TT just for the fun, comfort and power improvements. Your 997 choices range from 2007-2013 so I would nail down what you want in your TT as far as interior and exterior colors, options, miles, history, maintenance, former owners and their locations (I would stay away from recent flood and hurricane states), transmission (you said Tip) and etc. But whatever you choose, get a PPI first for peace of mind. The 997's are great cars and although you'll look fondly back to your 930 days you'll also look forward to driving your new 997.

997 is a bit cushy, but if you are just looking for a fast car that you can drive without much worry, 7TT is a good choice. Definitely more "GT" like, but pretty good at everything.

930 more special, but after having driven a few, I'd never really want to own one due to the power curve.

6TT is a good in between choice if you can stomach the looks/interior

If you're not looking to mod the car and as you said just enjoy I would personally look into the 997.2. From what I've read it's a more refined experience, the interior is much more updated, you get PDK instead of tip, etc.

getting rid of a 930 for a 997 turbo is a personal decision only you can make. If you make the switch, and you don't want a 3rd pedal, get a 997.2TT with PDK. IMO, it is a better choice than a 997.1tt with a tip. There is a price difference though so it depends on what you want to spend. Not a lot of demand for a 997.1tt with tip so they can be had cheap compared to a 997.2tt with PDK.

From your writing it sounds to me like you'd get more enjoyment out of a car that you'd actually drive. "Life is short" and "you can't take it with you" and so on.

I've had 2 930s and 4 997turbos (and a 993tt).
if I were you, I'd either keep the 930 or jump to a 6pd '09 997tt. Automatic transmission is just boring, you'll miss a manual turbo in no time.

There's just no way we can make this call for you. In a New York minute I'd get the 997 Turbo instead, and sell the hardly ever driven 930 Turbo, but that's just me. I'd want a car with excellent working A/C, a car I LOVE to safely drive in all conditions including wet, light snow, etc. The 997 Turbo is such an amazing car and handles SO WELL. Some may find it boring, but I've already had 17 years of driving a 6 speed 911, and other manual cars. I was more than ready for an easy to drive, ridiculously fast 997 Turbo S with PDK.

I have not seen my TT for 1 month as it is in storage and been too busy or just too many cars. I decided to get it today and the battery is dead. Did not surprise me, but I would tell you, everytime I see her, she impresses. usually I drive it once or twice a week, 80 miles each trip to work. I always anticipate that day.
The curves, interior and front fascia is perfect.

This is not my first Pcar nor my first 997 TT(3rd), but this would always be a bucket list or dream car for me.

Enjoy the search.
