Default Low cost GT3 stereo improvement options

ive seen threads with people swapping out the amps, head unit, etc. Has anyone tried just swapping the speakers? Does it make a big difference? Or do you need to do more to get any real benefit?

thanks

Removing it or keeping it off is the best option, surround sound is for 991.

It's a really noisy car. I dumped some money into my first Gt3 audio. U can get something that will allow u to continue to use OE head unit with an aftermarket amp in the trunk, speakers and iPhone interface. It was decent at best. You really would need to do some sound dampening to have any chance of something "good". I've since sold that Gt3; and subsequent GT/RS, I just make sure there's an iPhone input/BT. In my recent 991rs build, I ordered "Premium Sound". My review is that it sound just as crappy as standard stereo, only louder. So it's sh1tty loud sound!

Just give it up and roll down your windows to listen to the mezger symphony.

The standard stereo in the GT3 only comes with two door speakers IIRC. My first GT3 had that option. You can listen to music with the car off. Once you start moving, forget it. There is little sound insulation and the road noise drowns any meaningful sound from the stereo.

My RS has the sound option with 8 or 10 speakers. It's way better, because it's actually audible with the car in motion. But it's really not all that great. I don't think I've turned the stereo on in my car since last summer. Every time I'm behind the wheel of this car it's a special event for me. I feel the need to concentrate in order to get the most enjoyment out of it and music is a distraction. And I used to be a musician in a previous life...

I enjoy the flat 6 stereo. Then when on a commute....I just add my in ear Bose noise cancelling headphones and the tunes sound great.....

Seriously it's a good option.otherwise this has been covered before.

This is also what I do. When I drive longer stints on the road I put Bose in ears to help cover the drone. Once on track with helmet on it's fine.

I believe earphones in both ears are illegal while driving. And for a good reason, you can't hear what's going on around you.

If your car has the premium sound, send your amp out to Bergvill for upgrading. My GTs amp died.

I know my GT3 is LOUD, but once in a while like to listen goood music.
I did install Focal Performance 165AS3 - 6-3/4" 3-way component speaker system in the doors and Focal Integration ISC 100 4" 2-way car speakers on the rear, powered with Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4. In my opinion there was a huge sound improvement, in the next couple of months will install 1 Bass Shaker Tactile Transducer under each seat with a separate amplifier.

I do have a similar system on my 993tt and does definitively sounds GREAT!

^ prior owner of my car put in a $8k + installation radio in my car. Top of the line speakers / amp / head unit yada yada. I did a straight trade w/ someone for an oem unit. Individual asked me several times if i was serious.

When i was searching for my gt3 i wanted nav etc. truth be told i don't think i have ever turned on the radio longer then 15 minutes before i get annoyed and just listen to the road/ motor /transmission / brakes. Honestly does not get boring listening to those noises.

Do you think adding the rear speakers was worth the effort?

Aside....that bass system you are adding....I had a read. It doesn't seem to make any sound...just shakes you-is that correct?

Rick 930, congrats on a really nice stealth upgrade! Good looking install.

Do the Focal 165 AS3's have separate tweeters? If so, where did you put them? Did you test the sound in any other locations, appreciate your thoughts as you clearly planned this upgrade out. If you could share a photo that would be great. Thanks!
