Default 997.1 GT3 -OR- 991 GTS

Hey guys, been lurking around RL for years now and the time has come to get into my first P-Car. Im coming from an E92 M3 6 speed. Im a sucker for the 3rd pedal and its a must for me. So I've narrowed it down to these...

2015/16 911 991 Carrera GTS (7 speed)

VS.

997.1 GT3

I have a feeling it will be used as a DD more often than not, but i still will have a 2nd car to keep the miles low. Track days here and there (maybe 1-2 a year)...And im not afraid of the "raw-ness" of the GT3 as i prefer a more intuitive/driver focused car.

I believe the 997.1 GT3 will always have a certain value to it, and you can conclude the GTS will continue to depreciate to an extent, although it is basically the last N/A manual car from Porsche (minus the 911R) so something has to be said about its potential value in years to come...

The price points are somewhat similar between the 2, and i know i won't be getting a warranty with the 997...so my question is...What would you guys choose and why? Im torn...

you came into the GT forum so you're going to get some biased answers. Much of this depends a lot on what you'll use the car for, DD vs. weekend warrior/track. do you need 4 seats vs. 2?

also are you sure they are around the same price point? I'd think the 991 GTS is hovering around 997.2 prices more than 997.1. drive both and see where your mind decides on.

for me it's 997.1 GT3. it's not as common as every other 991. it's smaller and compact and more rewarding to drive. it's not faster than the GTS (probably slower), just more rewarding. the car to me sounds, and looks better, racing heritage blah blah blah.

997.1 from a technology perspective leaves much to be desired, no bluetooth, navi is almost useless, my car doesn't even have auto headlights, auto rain sensors either.

Friend bought a 2012 997 GTS due to preferring the 997 body style and more usable as DD vs GT3. His car has dropped about $30k since purchase with virtually no miles on it, but he intended to keep it when he purchased.
I drove it...great overall, and powerpack engine with more HSP vs Carrera S, lots of options as part of the regular price if you like those things. Steering and clutch very light feeling to me.
Agree with other RLer...GT3 much different animal you have to drive both.
Good luck and have fun finding your 911.

Street car I'd buy the 991 GTS, much more modern refined car. I don't really enjoy driving my GT3 on the road that much. Resale wise the GT3 should do better.

991 GTS would be your way to go for all mentioned above.
But best way to figure it out is to drive both back to back. I would go GT3 because I know I won't be driving it daily. For that purpose I like my cars to have nice features and modern feel. GL

Intended use and prior cars owned play a big part of this type of decision. As a early 911 owner I find my GT3 to be like a luxury car which is a great DD. It's not too raw and it has working AC. GTS will never have the same appeal and value of a GT3.

my boss just got a 2016 GTS NA/MT. Car is very nice and he daily drives it in Bay Area traffic. he really wanted the NA engine and MT, but no plans to track the car. he probably paid about what a lower mileage 997.2 GT3 would go for, but he wanted the refinement and warranty, so GTS was the right choice for him.

I would go 997.2 gt3. You will be extremely happy. If no go --- Get 997.1 gt3

Agree with comments above. Just relaying another opinion from my buddy who has owned a whole slew of 997's (incl. a C2S, .1 GT3, .2 GT3 RS) and recently got rid of his 991 GTS for a GT4.
His comments on the GTS were along the lines that it is a nice GT cruiser. All modern amenities, very civil etc. but it lacks the rawness and handling of the GT cars. If you won't be driving it very often on the street and a few times a year on the track, you will thank yourself after every event for having chosen a GT3.

gt3 for sure
Easily streetable/daily in stock form
If you decide it's too much - sell it in a year and lose basically nothing

VERY different driving experiences... u NEED to drive them both... clutch feel and pressure alone on GT3 is major question for DD-ability for most

prior poster correct... 991 GTS current pricing is roughly equal to 997.2 GT3 ($120K), not .1 ($100K)

991 GTS is also a special car... but 997 GT3 is just more so
