Default Another side delete thread

I've searched rennlist and other sites for exhaust configurations quite a bit. But after a while your head starts spinning with so many options, and some incomplete conclusions.

I've been happy with the FVD/M&M center bypass, and the Carnewal remote for actuating the valves. There's a convent/nuns not far from my house, so keeping it quiet when needed is nice. But then again, I have two very loud motorcycles with straight pipes :evil grin:
When I start the bikes, they're loud but I sneak out of the neighborhood, no revving to avoid pissing off the neighbors.

I've been thinking of side deletes with valves, and saw a member that got the TPC sides and retained the center bypass-which is close to the europipe and Sharkwerks straight track pipe- but by then, the valves probably make little difference. The white 997 on the reenlist thread with that setup is probably very loud, but videos posted only show the car idling, which isn't too bad compared to my setup. As it is, when I crank up from a cold start and center bypass activated, it's much louder compared to after it's warmed up. So cold start straight pipes must be a nightmare-

So if I did get the TPC valved side deletes, I'd have the option of keeping the FVD center, or using the stock center muffler, as preferred by most people going that route.
But with the stock center, the TPC still doesn't send all 100% of the exhaust through the open bottom section of the OEM unit, and the center muffler would be not much different than what I have now in terms of sound-but the weight and heat reduction would be a plus.
Sides and FVD center will be loud, I can use the Carnewal but either way it's pretty much a straight pipe.

The only other thing I thought of is if the valves were on the smaller section of the side pipe, it would block that part so the gases pass through the straight/bottom of the stock center when closed, or let them through top and bottom sections if open.
Ideally, for sound, I'd love the levels heard from the M&M straight rally setup, then full center muffler with the remote-I don't think anyone makes something like that

I would have more options using the TPC, but any opinions are appreciated-

Thanks

JB

Hey, give it a try!

However, you need to consider that both the upper and lower inlets into the stock center will reduce the resonant vibrations. Flow through the upper will reduce resonance more than the lower imo. It's not just sound amplitude that is kept under control with the "loud switch" and center muffler configuration. Sound resonance will beat the crap out of your ears if not set up properly. Porsche design engineers have spent years perfecting this balance between optimal back-pressure and sound level, while reducing resonant vibrations.

This is what I found on another website, don't remember which:

When the valves for the lower intake section (2.5") are closed, all exhaust enters the upper intake section (2.0"), and are baffled in an S path out the lower pipe. The valves open after 4000 rpm in standard mode, or after 3000 rpm and at idle in sport mode. If the valves don't open, there is a 20+ hp loss 3000 rpm up. By running the baffled path from idle to 3000 rpm, the exhaust drone that typically occurs from headers on a 911 from 1500 to 2800 rpm zone are attenuated out.

+1 on the TPC side bypass pipes and OEM center. I have that setup on my .1 GT3 and love it. Give Tom at TPC a call, he'll answer any questions you've got on the engineering and design of their bypass pipes.

Curious if the TPCs and stock center is louder than the side mufflers and FVD bypass-
There's a lot of loud 430s, 458s, Lambos, etc around here-maybe some of them are straight pipes (or usually Tubis I suppose), but they're loud-straight pipes are tempting, I could always start the car with the garage door closed until I leave

I like my setup, but straight pipes would be nice too
TPCs with the FVD bypass is pretty much straight, I could do that until I get a ticket, lol The nice thing about extreme loud is people stay away from you

I had a similar setup for a few months. Sound is fantastic and quite loud. Little to no drone cruising at 80mph.

can't offer any opinion on the TPC piece, but did recently install a BBi side delete/OEM centre muffler on a 7.1 3 and it sounds great ,and to the ear, quieter than my straight pipe 6GT2

Check out Dundon Motorsports as well, no affiliation. If I had to do it over I would look at their setup pretty seriously

My current set up is headers/BBI side pipes/OEM center, it is loud in a good way. Not for the faint of heart but it is a GT3 so why not

I checked the Dundon website and they only sell complete systems-didn't see side deletes listed separately

If FVD/M&M had side deletes with valves it would be a good choice-
Thnx

Our side muffler deletes are only made to work with our headers. If you are looking to remove the stock side mufflers and retain the factory headers/cats then TPC may be the way to go.

It's on my list to build 997 GT3 side deletes that work with stock headers/cats I just have too much In front of them to complete right now. This includes catted headers but it's pretty far out. I believe TPC already makes these so look into theirs.

If you want power sound no drone then our setup is the way to go
