It was for sale on here earlier in the year for 123k. I went to look at it and passed. They bought it that day for around that price. They cleaned it up and listed it for like 155, which was aggressive.

I think at 130-135 its a great car. I have all the docs in my email if you buy it. Has a rebuilt LSD, gt2 rear sway bar, shorter eibach springs, girodisc rotors and some arms. Along with an exhaust.

my point is the new generation of internet auction buyers do less diligence on cars that are now older and more opaque history than at least I did when I bought and ran these cars hard. Only time will tell if that matters I suppose
I’m one of those guys… but with risk comes opportunity. Not everyone is comfortable with getting their hands dirty… but it’s half the fun for me. My RS was off BAT and it had an undisclosed transmission issue that cost me $12k(could have been cheaper but I went motorsport spec). However now that I’ve touched every part of the car I know she is perfect.

The truly great thing about these 997 GT cars is that they are just old enough to have a tried and true secondary motorsport parts market and they arn’t so old there isn’t anyone around that can work on them… “And may rennlist live forever”

So this car is just a blast to fix wear items and interior etc back to better than new. But I do see a day when DB Carbon is retired, Bill Rader is no longer doing transmissions and Dallas Custom Steering Wheel is no longer there to perfectly redo every Alcantara bit on the car.

The 997 is in the sweet spot of auto history and auto racing, you gotta trust the Porsche GT cars bones… they be made for endurance

I wouldn't say that. It was definitely used as intended. I actually regretted not buying it. Funny how these cars get used so much when they are new but its frowned upon when they are older. Every event i go to i see dozens of 991 GT/RS cars but when a 997 pops up for sale and the owner did a track event the comment well deems it salvage title.

Tracked our 997 gt3 and never had to replace the LSD and arms. That is very unusual

Almost sounds like he went off badly at some point or ran off a road

lsd always goes 100% you just didn’t notice
arms are a wear item for safety

all these cars were hammered - people paying nosebleed today just have trouble realizing these cars were total track hookers back in the day - we’d have lines 10 deep going down the straight at laguna

Yeah, the LSD went in my 981 and I definitely wasn't driving 10/10ths all the time and didn't have an off or a crash (well, I did, but it totaled the car so at that point the LSD didn't matter). The OEM parts are known to be fragile.

I've looked into the white 997 at the BMW dealership and got the impression that it could be a solid driver, beat or not (it already has the right parts minus buckets). Bigger issue is whether or not I want to pay that much money for a track driver when I'm already in a faster, virtually new 718.

They weren't exactly cheaper 10-15 years ago. They just have a few more miles on them today. It's not too late @GT3 Mike . Allocate your capital to a GT3 and hit the track.

Ehh it’s all relative… my buddy with a new ford GT always seems to have wrappers and crumbs on the floor and drives me nuts… the only thing I stress about is dying before I have the opportunity to drive the wheels off one
