Agree, they are banking on the color here.

I’m neither offended by a low ball offer when selling, nor reluctant to submit one as a buyer. It’s a free option offered by the buyer with zero downside for the seller.
I think you are talking hypothetically - unless you are actually doing the research on the specific car including paying for a ppi. If not, the offer really is just a low ball offer and of little value to the buyer or seller.

I’m not talking hypothetically. It’s not a low ball offer if it’s realistic and near the market, regardless of how much lower it is from the ask. And nothing wrong or personal about low ball offers either — they get taken too sometimes. Transactions make the market, at whatever price they occur. The ask is almost irrelevant.

You may not think it’s a low ball offer but if it’s significantly below the asking price the seller probably thinks it is. And that is all that really matters.

Plus, tell me that you make an offer without a ppi or at least a personal inspection (which is often difficult when looking at cars outside of ones area) and a low ball offer is mostly just bs.

1. Offer pending a PPI pass and confirmation that car is as presented/described
2. Offer accepted
3. PPI pass and condition confirmed
4. Sale done

Without agreement on price, no reason to pay for PPI.

Speaking for myself, of course, I almost disregard the ask when presenting an offer and not just for cars.

All dealers seem to be priced high on these cars. I‘ve been going back and forth with Porsche Livermore on the white one they have with PCCBs. They were at $109k and recently dropped to $99k. I offered low $90’s, where it should be priced, and was told that it was “against the used car company policy for discounts to exceed a complimentary discount of $500.”

The dealer selling the Blue GT3 called me as I have placed a bid on eBay.
Told me the reserve price is the "for sale" price of $99,999.

I replied "It's a nice car, but I have no preference for color and there are many others for less" to which he replied "Well, sir, this is a manual 2008 GT3, which is pretty rare".

"Ah. It's a manual. It's rare."

... and if memory serves me, I don't even think eBay will let you set the reserve at exactly the same price as the Buy-it-Now. There is a % below the Buy-it-Now that they force you down to (caveat: Unless that is just for small stuff,.. which is all I have ever sold on eBay. Maybe $100k cars are different).

But yea that is funny. can't make this stuff up sometimes.

🤣 I know people who are better at selling $400 jackets than a dealer try to selling 100k Porsche. That’s embarrassing..

According to Pors9 there are only two 2008 Cobalt blue GT3s in North America. If that's accurate then it is pretty rare indeed.
