The comparison of the 996 and 997 generations. A great video.

Disagree @ 11:10, my 997 is actually faster and more compliant on track in regular PASM mode vs. sport PASM. Also the comments about the .2 having CF bits and Nav are more specific to that actual car and the way it was optioned, same with the seats. But good comparisons.

You bet. A few broker-dealer types got back to me and the 996 RS is a bit too much money for what I would like to spend. Asking prices for the non crashed cars are closer to €250K. Import duties and transport would put it closer to $265K. So that was it I guess... Am glad I did get to drive it for as little as I did.

The video of walter put word sin his mouth....that was a long interview that then overlaid questions after the fact (at least it appeared that way based on how he answered).

Here is an excerpt from another interview:
"
And the next predictable Porsche question; PDK in the GT3 - thoughts?
[With a knowing smile] "Yes, during the press launch everybody was complaining and saying: 'Why?!' But I said, 'Be happy! Drive the car and you will see how much easier it is for you to go fast.' The shifting is something very impressive. I think most engine problems we have created because people were not able to watch the rev counter, watch the speed, and know when to shift. So they would shift back too early and the engine would be over-revving. With PDK, you avoid this. But for myself, if I want to buy a car, and I want to say I keep this car for the next 20 years, I would always take a manual gearbox, because I believe more, I trust more in a manual than in a double clutch. I've just ordered a Boxster Spyder with a manual shift - and I know that it's working, it's perfect, and it's up to me how I handle things. But PDK makes life easier for normal customers"

The short wheel base is the last real 911
The 72 is the last real 911
The 915 trans was last, g50 is too easy and doesn't have character
The 964 has ABS and coilovers - not a real 911
The 993 is too heavy and squished looking
The 996 is water cooled and looks like a boxster
The 997 has too many electronics
The 991 has PDK and rear steer

The equation for "character" can actually be calculated. It's equal to the price difference for the new car multiplied by the increase in performance. If there's a major technological change like ABS, water cooling or PDK, you have to square the result.
