Newer plugs, unlike older plugs, often have fixed end terminals. Some of my older cars had a wire clip on the plug wire, and it was necessary to remove the screw-on terminal to click the wire onto the plug. Maybe the newer coil-on-plug ignition systems are designed to snap onto the plug's larger tip, and the tip is now fixed. By the way, Porsche does not now recommend any antiseize, i suspect to avoid misfires. When we did my 997 S's plugs last fall, we did put on a very thin coat of copper based antiseize just on the threads, to avoid galling.

Back in the mid '60's, during a cross country trip in my TR4, one of my plug wires kept coming adrift off a spark plug, so i eventually used one of the shoelaces off my Converse sneaker to tie it onto the plug. Gotta be resourceful with English sports cars.

On my Cobra, I used a special Denso plug, the center electrode was from a meteor, and immune to any erosion. Not cheap, but never needed replacement.

All the best...

JB, that's the same tip as the one found on replacements. If you look at the picture, the originals came with the copper looking tips.

True, but the Y5DDC is the proper plug for our GT3's. No reason to use anything else.
Entirely possible. :-)

Oh, I thought it was the other way around
The copper tip ones seemed like the cheaper version, lol

I'm curious if there is a difference or not, the price is the big noticeable difference

Could it be that the new tips replaced the other ones?

^^^ thats my guess.. one supercedes the other, my car had OEM which I replaced a few weeks ago they both matched the Bosch 'non-oem' i.e the silver caps.

The coils have a contact spring that push on the cap but doesn't locate ove the cap so I see no difference as the numeric's (heat range and reach) are the same.

+2, seems like just an update. The original tip has been around forever so I can't imagine that being an update. As suggested, the coil has spring tension on the tip unlike clipping on as in the past with distributor type ignitions.

Talking about spark plugs, have you guys tried different plugs like the NGK Iridium plugs?

Amazon.com: NGK (2667) BKR7EIX Iridium IX Spark Plug, Pack of 1: Automotive Amazon.com: NGK (2667) BKR7EIX Iridium IX Spark Plug, Pack of 1: Automotive

Does this fit the 997?
Has anyone tried them?

I am trying to fix a misfire in cylinder 2 issue and I've changed the coil packs and now I am on to changing the spark plugs.

Thanks.

If you had a missfire - change the plugs and coils at the same time.

Worn plugs or faulty ones put load on the coils and they can fail- its the main cuase of coil failures next to heat.

Hope you haven't cooked a new coil- unlikely but possible if driven for a while.

Also check your cats- a missfire will pour fuel on the cat causing the chemical process to run away and melt the monolith core...

Thanks for that, yes I might have stuffed the coil, sigh, but will the NGK plugs work?

Thanks.

Second this.

To the OP: The misfire isn't from the plugs. If you changed them the misfire's coming from some other cause.
