seems like most of the Bay Area dealers are pre-maxed out on GT4 deposits already!

I'll grant everybody that debating the merits of 45 year old sports cars is pointless. Those with experience in an early S car will definitely know the difference between it and 914-6. You need to work an S hard to get the best of them but they had about a 1/3 more power. I have owned both early 911's and 914's and they are both fun in their own way. As we know power is not the only point of a car. How many have traded out of a turbo and into a GT3?
Anyway, I don't think the GT4 is too underpowered and it seems like there is demand for the GT4 as many dealers have waiting lists. I think it is doing at least a decent job on the track if it can equal 997 GT3 ring times. I agree that the engine is the most disappointing part of the car and we will have to see if any engine problems develop but it is at least encouraging that a similar platform is involved in racing.
I think if you can only have one car then a GT3 of some sort is probably the best choice. They are my favorite driving 911's. If you have a pdk GT3 then adding the manual and mid-engined GT4 will be a very different car.
I think it will be interesting to see how a GT4 stacks up against a pdk cayman GTS on the track. Hopefully it feels and is a lot faster, which it should be for the increase in price.

Great, undoubtedly many of those with the GT4 will benefit from 3.8 performance engineering.
And 0 - 60 mph in 4.2 is conservative. Especially with PDK and launch Control. But I know more of these cars will be delivered with Manuals.

As of now they haven't announced a PDK GT4. Maybe in the future...
