Default 991 GT3, 930 or 997gt2?

Hey all,

Looking for some feedback on a potential purchase and these are the three 911's I want most.

991 GT3 - Latest and greatest, maybe last of the NA GT's?

930 - Childhood dream. Want one before they get out of reach. Kinda there already.

997gt2 - Mezger turbo, stick GT. Best appreciation?

I don't currently own a turbo, so that would be a cool new driving experience, but I really love the convenience of the GT3 PDK, not to mention performance. I think the 930 and GT3 have the most visual appeal to me.

Which would you pick and why?

I know there are a lot of other great choices, but I have those boxes ticked in one way or another. Some of course, are just unobtainium in $ or availability.

Thanks!

I went with all three! I have had a dp cabriolet for about 6 years and still love the car. Recently made some changes in my stable and picked up a 991 GT3. I liked it so much I decided to pick a GT2 as I wanted a modern Turbo. Even though they are very differnt, I love them all.

GT2, then 930, then 991GT3.

The GT2 is very rare and a fantastic car to have in the stable. Will only appreciate. The 930 is just as special, but is not as fun to drive as the GT2. The 991 GT3 is not a true road going GT3 in my opinion (my own opinion only) and won't be as special as the older GT cars. The 991 GT3 depreciation will be more than most expect in my opinion. Go with the GT2, I drove one and won't ever get over not being able to buy it (no room in the garage for another Porsche).

You will hate the way the 930 drives. Honda has more torque.

997 GT 3.....or better yet RS..

Drive them all you will know.

Good luck.

for the amount of money for a 991 GT3 you can buy a 997 GT3 + 930; if not I will choose a 997 GT2.

I had own a 1986 930 tuned with appx 525hp, it was a BLAST to drive, but still prefer my 1996 993tt and my new acquisition 2010 GT3 with many upgrades.

If it's going to be used for weekends and track days would go with the GT2, if you will be using the car as your DD - would go with the 991 GT3. The automatic makes bumper to bumper traffic manageable.

I was selling 930s back when they were new cars and as magnificent as they were in the 70's & 80's, from a driver's perspective time has moved on. That said they are still visually stunning and will be a good investment even if enjoyed primarily as garage art. The 991 GT3 is an amazing car and probably your best option if you want a car with PDK. I prefer a manual gearbox and normally aspirated engine which for me leaves out both the GT2 and 991 GT3.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices.
But if you are an analog kinda guy that leaves the 991 out.I need 3 pedals and a stick.I sold my paddle shift GTR for a more engaging experience.A 997 GT2.
I have not been happier.I love the rarity/ low production numbers of the GT2.The last of the undervalued Porsches in my book

I would go GT2 - 991 GT3 - 930, but those last two could easily be switched.

The 930 is a beautiful car and the childhood dream Porsche for many of us here, but for me its a bit unmanagable. I've driven alot of fast cars and a modded 930 was the only car that ever scared me to death.

The 991 GT3 is an awesome car if you are fine with PDK. My primacy concern here will be depreciation- whatever you pay now its almost certain to go down. Maybe I've been spoiled by owning two appreciating Porsches, but I never want to lose money on a car again.

That leaves the GT2- last of the metzgers, manual, fast as hell. I think it is a safe bet for an appreciating car as well.

Thanks for all of the thoughtful responses guys.

Biggest problem is, I love both modern and vintage, digital and analog.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding gt3/rs. Couldn't agree more!

Here's mine. 997.2rs

Rick930 - Love those two white beauties, especially that 993tt!! What a rare gem. More pics please.

Looks like most would go for gt2. Go figure, on a GT3/2 board,

You guys make a convincing argument for the GT2. I can have my turbo, and retain some nice value.

Do these only come in black and white? That's all I ever see.

My personal order of preference:

1. 997 GT2: One of the great driving experiences, under-rated, future classic. Easy to live with and use but still challenging and engaging.

2. 991 GT3: Vast breadth (DD through track), amazing usability. Agility and (most) limits unmatched by any stock 911... Downside: this won't be true for long, arguably too fast and easy to really engage on a US public road. Depreciation.

3. 930: Classic looks and style: the real deal. Downside: needs great tires, great skill and select mods to access the available performance. The turbo lag seals it for me: often frustrating, tricky to drive around. If I got one it'd be an early 3.3L euro spec lightweight non-sunroof car (2800 lbs), great tires, suspension/ shocks and mods to reduce turbo lag. All reversible to preserve value.

I love the old school cars, but I'd much rather make that power normally aspirated- so much more usable. Very tempting to stick a 3.6 in a 930 shell and mod it properly if it was still an affordable platform to start from...
