Default Is upgrading from .1 to .2 GT3 worth driving a cheap daily?

I bought an 07 GT3 earlier this year and absolutely love it. However, I always wanted a .2 due to the supposed performance improvements and that newer is better mentality. I did not get a .2 since the $30k premium was out of my budget (no loans). However, I keep lusting for a 2010-2011 GT3.

I do not track my GT3. I probably drive it 3000 miles annually just on the weekends as a fun errand car and stress reliever. I definitely do not take full advantage of the performance on the street.

I figure the only way I can justify the upgrade to a 2010 GT3 is to downgrade my daily driver. I have a 2011 E63 (not the biturbo) that I drive daily and love. It's an awesome sedan that is roomy, comfortable and probably as fast as my GT3. It's still under warranty, which is a plus. I am guessing It is worth low $50s if I sold it today.

Should I sell my E63 and buy something cheap like a new Honda Accord sedan to justify upgrading my 2007 GT3 to a 2010?

Would you guys do it? Is the .2 worth it?

Mooty makes a point about the RS. It gets to some people.

However, if my options were only as you listed I would NOT change what I have. You're much better off with an older GT3 and an E63 than some crappy accord and a newer GT3. The differences aren't worth the punishment (aka, accord).

Yea! Go ahead. Drive a POS every day so you can be big **** at C&C.

Who cares if you ever use the extra 20 HP?

The frustration of maintaining CL wheels is such a joy. It'll fulfill all your S&M desires.

Mooty, I was saving that thread for next year. You are truly wise indeed.

The .2 RS is my holy grail. Unfortunately, my office is too far to walk even for a .2RS

997-2 is significantly better. If I were you, I'd spend time in one and see if it's worth it to you.

Look at it this way, is the 997-2 $20,000 better than a 997-1? And is the 997-2RS $30,000 better than the 997-2 GT3 and $50,000 better than a 997-1 GT3?

997.1 to 997.2 is not worth the extra cash. They both do the same thing on the street. Not much different on the track.

You would enjoy the 997.2 but you would feel like you burned your money.

The only worth while upgrade from the 997.1 is the 997.2RS.

Nothing is worth driving an accord every day!!

If you want a fun cheap daily, get an older M, like a E36/46 M3 or E39 M5.

If you are looking to stay in the range of a .2 gt3. I'd go for .1 rs. More panache than non-rs .2 and hold value better. Nothing like owning an Rs. Once you do it once you will never go back. I owned a .2rs and now a .1rs. Couldn't be happier. Not at least until I can get my hand on the new 991 rs. Good luck.

I would not depart from the true 6.3 engine. I currently have a 5.5 at home that for some reason is called 6.3. That engine is for MB what Mezger is for P. If I had to drive to work on an Accord or something on those lines, I would end up spending more on therapy than in cars. I never had problems with subway, btw.

I had the same question a few years ago. I was deciding in between .1 and .2 (non rs). I sold my ISF, bought a .2, track the honda fit and drive a Hyundai to work. Couldn't be happier. I would rather drive what I really want and work hard to make up the price difference. Life is so limited, enjoy what we can

The 6.3 is actually a 6.2L. And there are issues with the cams of the M156 motor and a class action lawsuit.

To me the 5.4L (they call it the 5.5) is the Mezger of the M-B engines. That's a tried and true engine. NA, supercharged, turbocharged, you name it. Great longevity and you can make a lot of power with those.

That being said, you can't beat the sound of a NA 6.3 AMG!

For what I know, the NJ court dismissed the class action suit. I'm aware of the 0.1 that MB adds. I should have said that the 5.4, called 5.5, gets to be labeled as a 63. If given the choice, I would still take the old engine in their new cars, regardless of longevity - that sound.... The OP has a tremendous daily driver. Part of the enjoyment as well.
