Default GT3 vs 4GTS: Should I do it?!

Hi all,

I'm considering on part exchanging my 997.2 4GTS for 997.1 GT3. Just wanted to know your thoughts on whether I should go for it.

My main concerns are:

1. Worried about the depreciation of my 4GTS, where i'm expecting the GT3 to hold its value more.

2. Going from a the Gen1 to Gen 2

3. My 4GTS is curently 5,000 miles where the GT3 im looking at is around 24,000 miles

I would appreciate any advice as Im thinking about putting down the deposit tomorrow.

Thanks all

I like your idea. What are the dollars on this deal?

Im based in the UK, but it would roughly be £15,000. £55,000 for the 4GTS and £70,000 for the GT3

GTS is a car
GT3 is a toy
do not mix the two
once you understand that, you will make right decision.
dep'n and all that only clouds the issue.

I replied in your thread from the 997 forum

my only regret was waiting so long (pretend shopping) to turn to GT3

you will not regret it. and in the event you did, you'll sell your GT3 a lot faster than the GTS

Wise words.

Another perspective, I itch and dream about getting my gt3 on the track and into the canyons to wring it out. I didn't have this same feeling about my 997.2 911 despite it being a great car.

It depends on your expectations/use for the car. If you're looking for a comfy and sporty cruiser that you can drive daily than the GTS is more than plenty enough. But if you want a high revving monster that is a bit rough around the edges and has a racy feel for canyon carving or track driving, or to even simply drive it on the weekends then you will not regret your decision to go with a GT3.

On the note of .1 vs .2, well the .2 certainly looks prettier. And technologically the PCM on the .2 is better. Besides those, it's essentially the same for the interior and usage.

Did you mean PCM or PSM?

sure he meant pcm, as 7.1 screen is ugly as hell and destroys the whole car.
i would never buy a 7.1 gt3 with the screen in it.
7.2 is borderline, but nice for folks who like to play with technology while they are driving. not me.

OP - listen to mooty, he is that old, wise man who has already done it all and gives you the conclusion you need in 2 seconds.
if you are street, keep gts and be happy ( and stop wondering)
if you are gonna start tracking, then gt3 is the one.
simple as that, really.

+1. I did just that, sold my 97.1 GT3 for a new 97.2 GTS. And yes, the 7.1 dash design and ergonomics are awful. I've since sold the GTS and am driving a 50th Anniv. model -- it's sublime.
