Default LOL - Thanks for the laughs: "My brakes squeak..."

A note of thanks for the unintended commiseration.

I bought my .8 GT3 last week used and it was clear the last owner changed the pads but not the rotors which didn't help much in the noise department thanks to the fact that the rotors were now beveled something fierce.

I dropped the car off at my local dealer to do a once-over/major service and change out the brakes. They advised me after I picked it up that "GT3 brakes are noisier than most, so they're going to squeak."

"Squeak," they said.

In German, I assume there is a 27 letter word that approximates the cacophony of shrieking valkyeries that have taken up residence in my wheel wells, but holy crap, going from a well behaved Cayman S with no squeaks to something that sounds like someone hitting Frankie Valli in the nuts with a sledgehammer on gentle braking was an eye-opener.

So of course I searched the forum and discovered that this is, indeed, a "feature."

I LOL'd at the desperate pleas for help which were answered with "suck it up, Francis...it's a race car." I've bedded in the brakes and it helps for a while, but I guess if I am going to DD the car, I will just embrace the grind.

So I have.

I have also taken to rolling down my window and shouting at people who stare indignantly at the ear-piercing wail: "Sorry. Race pads. Could be worse, it could be a Harley with straight pipes..." and then mash the gas.

Thanks for the laughs and unwitting understanding you have shared with me

/Hoff

Put this stuff on the back of the backing plates of the brake pads:

Amazon Amazon

It works wonders.

15 min after driving spray down brakes and calipers with hose - no squeal - don't do this if you are coming back from braking hard though

Make sure damper pads still in

Race Pads squeak when cold? Water is wet?

Why not run a street pad?

Wait is this the white one with ~25 or 26k miles you bought from a dealer?

Navi as an option?

As of last night, that car had not been sold (assuming we are talking about the same one). I submitted an offer but the dealer said they would not negotiate for the car. :-|

Yes I bet we are.

I had inside line on that car for $75k - people always want to pay more from a dealer, never makes sense to me.

That car has a bad squeal as well - think its likely time for new dampers on it

Did you submit the offer prior to the PPI they had done (which they performed on Monday)? The car apparently had the RMS replaced.

I knew of the car before it was traded in 4 months ago

RMs doesn't cost that much to fix

We must be talking about a different car. This car was just traded in and was on Rennlist last week privately.

The one I'm talking about is the one currently at Palo Alto Volvo/McLaren

Nope that's the one - spoke to the owner 4 months ago on the car and actually offered it up to a few people here who passed

Few people are ready to wire the money when the time comes instead ask lots of questions people get sick of dealing with it. Those people buy from dealers cause dealers have patience

I bought mine sight unseen picked it up and drove home - needed a few things here and there now a cherry car

That's just funny $h*t Hoff, I like the cut of your jib. These brake-squealing threads end up some of my favorites!

It's fun to mess with people in stop and go traffic. If you're careful, you can time the squeals to get the guy next to you to start wondering if it's their car since that Porsche next to them is too fancy to have squeaky brakes.
