It appears to be a 9mm hex to drive the bolts is that correct? Who the heck uses 9mm? I have literally every single size but that. Also I had to remove the plastic boxes that sit behind the seats against the b pillar to get it in - that normal? What a nightmare installation and its only just pinned in with metal studs to get it in straight need the right hex socket to install it

I would suggest contacting GMG

As for removing a plastic box, that sounds familiar, as to when I had a bar put in my 06 C2S. My GT3 came with the Clubsport installed already.

There are many threads on the installation in this forum and in the 996GT3 forum

Not sure about the 9mm hex you are talking about, but yes - the box by the B pillar have to be removed or crushed.
Also, if you use all-thread stud and nut for the anchor near the B pillar instead of bolt, the installation if much easier.
Again, do some research on this as well in the 996 GT3 forum.

3/8 standard hex drive is the answer for future searchers

Careful not to cross thread and must remove rear view mirror

Matt,

Doing this helps, makes process so much easier to line up holes.

I did the same with mine and it was much easier getting the bar in with the straps.

Did you strap the bar before or after you put in the car?

That just seems wrong in so many ways - is the GMG fit so bad that you have to do this???

I had to squat the bar in while wife drove bolt in - least favorite car experience of all time

The GMG fit is outstanding. The problem is the plastic part surrounding the area where the lower bolt goes into the car. The plastic can be compressed by the bar as it is tightened by the bolts but it is a major pain. The strap pulls the bar in and allows the bolts to be started easier. It also helps to prevent stripped threads if the alignment is off. The other way is to pull back the carpet and cut the plastic around the bolt holes.

Caution! It takes very little in the way of force for the bar to crack the windshield. When I removed my bar from a C2S it bumped the windshield and it cracked. Couldn't believe it.

In comparison cut the plastic and you will think you died and went to heaven. I've done it both ways.
