Default Ohlins DFV suspension - Mid-Ohio

Well, I finally have some data for one of my home tracks after installing the Ohlins DFV shocks. After some very brief suspension tuning, I still set a personal best time at Mid-O on the pro-course (1:34.1) with a couple hold-ups on the lap, so 33's are definitely do-able with some clear track. That equates to 36's on the club course.

No cheater mods......stock engine, stock gearing. Full interior, just handling mods.....Ohlins, Tarrett inner monoballs, GMG swaybars. Nitto NT01's.

I'll be at Putnam this weekend to collect some more data, and expect another personal best if I can get some clean laps.

What's maybe even more impressive is that I'm turning fast laps really late in sessions (my personal best came 18 minutes into the session), so the consistency it allows is noticeable.....anybody with a GT3 that's looking for a great single adjustable setup, look no further, Ohlins nailed it. You don't need to be a suspension guru to dial this in, 1 click is noticeable, which makes it easy to set up to your liking.

Very nice. Where did you end up clicks opened from fully closed on your setup?

Front 3, rear 4. Still playing with them though. At Barber the car was better with rear 5.

It seems that faster corners with quick entry/direction change favor a slightly stiffer rear setting, so the car doesn't wag it's tail as much, and you can get back to the throttle sooner.

How did your times compare with the stock (or stock with stiffer springs) suspension? Also, are you still in the 100F/120R ride height range with the new setup?

Either brand is great for guys like us. I would pick one from a shop that has knowledge to tune/setup/warranty/service/convenient for you.

Not to be a PITA but your three best laps as recorded have over 1.5seconds of variance, which makes any kind of analysis quite haphazard at best. In my kart at MO in a 45 minute race at the national level, I rarely see variance past 1/2 second a lap, and usually the fastest 10 laps fall within 2-3 tenths. Drive more consistently and the single adjustable shock settings may not be enough.

It's called traffic, and lots of it. I barely got any clean laps, and as you can see, it took almost 15 minutes into the session before I got some clean-ish laps, and finally a decent flyer on lap 13.

I was just pointing out that despite being late in a session with hot tires, I still posted a pretty darn quick time (my fastest ever), after finally getting the suspension set to my liking. So that means there is still some time left on the table, and shows the marked improvement this setup has over stock.

With regards to single adjustable, it's exactly what I want. I'm not racing, I'm just DE-ing, and at $3000, there isn't anybody else out there that can touch this quality of a setup for that price for a GT3.

Traffic is a bigger problem when racing.

I was honestly torn between both as well, but in my experience, most people almost never touch compression settings once they have them set, they tend to just adjust rebound.

The Bilsteins are very nice, and comparable setup. In fact, the KW Clubsports, Bilsteins, and Ohlins are all the same type of setup. I just couldn't justify paying almost double the price for having independent compression adjustment that I'll rarely use.

The Ohlins have their DFV valve, which gives you high speed compression adjustment automatically. I also like the temperature sensitive function which controls oil flow to keep the shock working the same regardless of temp....something I could definitely feel over the stock dampers.

You can't go wrong with either, I'm just a big fan of only paying for what I'm going to use. I'll never need more than this level of adjustability and performance for what I'm doing, and the lap times prove the performance is there.
