going old school
Had this old 73 911t for a year (car in picture below with my Dad last summer). It was a track car for 20+ years and I did minimal to get back on the road. Love the old longhoods so decided to bring this one back.

Nice project and to trick out the dash use use elephant hide for the textured surface and they also use this for a section of the door panel. John's M. dark blue car 73T had this and I can not wait to find a project like this to work on myself.
Keep us up to speed with the renovation Clarke!

GTS Classics has the proper basketweave vinyl material for the dash insert. They also offer some nice era-correct sport seats in several styles.

Just Dashes can repair your dash pad to better-than-new condition if it isn't completely ruined under the plastic cover:

Are you going for original stock...or going to soup it up some? Awesome color too...I had a drum set in birdseye maple once in that color.

This car was a tracked car for 20+ years. It has been beaten on, banged up, wrecked and repaired and patched up.
I am NOT doing a FULL concours restoration. All I was going to do was replace a few rusty parts and keep on driving it.
Then Charlie (Intersport owner/master mechanic) said that if I replaced the floor pan but did not straighten the tub from previous impact then the car would be forever out of square. So I decided to straighten it which requires major disassembly. And since it is diassembled then I thought it would be fun to paint it the original color Aubergine (Barney).
I am not here to restore this car. No stripping everything to find out how much more needs replacing. Already know the rear fenders are replacements and various other parts have been messed with.
After a few rust and accident repairs I am painting it, putting in some cool seats, 7R rears and hauling a$$ down the road.
This is not the car for a full blown restoration. This is a driver/beater.
I bought for $23k, already spent $3k in minor stuff (getting windows to roll down, tune-up, other misc stuff).
$15k rust, frame rack, paint (+ a lot of my own labor helping Charlie - 100+ hours of my time???)
$5k rear wheels/tires
$4k seats
=$50k car
Hoping car will be done in 8 weeks so I can drive it to the PCA WGI club race.
I still have my hot rod to build - some sort of longhood R Gruppe or RS or RSR...

^Great job...very nice!
I am re-doing my 72S right now. I am amazed at their value! Wow!!
I just installed a HotRod 2.7L/11.5:1/dual plug/Weber/915break-gear/Giken...now body and paint back to silver metallic.
I will also install a GTClassics seat on the driver's side...
Great work!.....

^I started one in the 911 forum but I closed it when the thread went sideways...due to the high value of the "S" some (good) folks were not too happy with me modding the car instead of restoring...
I will start another one soon and position my thread better....
