First of all I have never been inside a dually, first time was in your truck. You drove it like u stole it, and squeezed it in that restaurant parking lot in between those benzes, it was unbelievable! I swear I thought we hit them after that experience, I had to get one lol

I pull with a Audi Q7 TDI. Featherlite trailer.

I have probably put about 15K miles with the trailer hooked up. I pulls fantastic and still averages about 27MPG on the highway rolling at 75MPH. As soon as I hit the 4th year and my Audi Care package is up I will likely trade for a new one.

I did look at MB/ BMW and VW. All stacked up well but went with Audi. I wanted the 3rd row seat.

At that time AUDI, MB,VW and BMW were the only choices for diesel SUV.

Now I am somewhat interested in looking at the new jeep since you can now get an SUV with a diesel. It appears very competitive. Yes.. I know there is the Porsche Diesel out there. Still doesn't come with 3rd row.

What about lexus lx570? I am a bit concerned about all this talk about 50K mile life on some of these suvs. I bought the lx570 for towing as a forever vehicle (250K mile target, now at little over 50K). Generally tow boat only though.

Now I need to figure out how to to tow my gt3 to norcal from free country. Logistics logistics logistics. Thinking of renting uhaul, wishing there was a better option.

Lease x5 or other SUV. Tow the crap out of it. At end of the day, HD truck is the only way if you want to tow. U get away w a lot of setup. But u can't beat 3/4 ton truck and capability.

The big three companies are coming out w redesigned trucks next month. I like the look of gmc. But Ronald will have crap load of issue being first year. I listen to mooty now. He knows the reality and truth. Quiet a devil but we all need mooty's truth in this hobby.

IMO, if you are going to buy a big diesel, and it's not going to be your DD (only really for towing), then just buy used. These things last forever if you take car of them, so why take the depreciation hit? Let somebody else do it for you.

F250 and F350 ('08 and up) can be had for cheap, especially if you can find 4x2 (which is actually more ideal for towing). Commercial fleets are always a great place to find good deals.

I stole my '09 F350 dually (4x2), it has 140K miles now (120K when I bought it) and drives like an absolute champ, and will go for double the miles I have, easily. It even came with a gooseneck hitch already installed.

M3 and Cayenne V6 for daily driving....

mine is a 2011 1 ton Denali with appx 55K on it -- literally the only issue has been a cracked windshield washer fluid reservoir... change oil and add DEF every 5000 miles...

I am going to go checkout a big GMC next week to satisfy the crazies here, but I'm not sure I can pass mooty's drive test. i can barely drive manual, and definitely not while eating and I don't have cup holders in RS so no drinks but maybe having auto in truck allows me to do the coffee thing at same time. No kids so one less distraction there.

My biggest issue with the X5 is the short wheelbase. Doesn't it cause stability issues?

Personally - I would get a Touraeg TDI if you want something small otherwise Tahoe Hybrid if you want great MPG when not towing. Otherwise - just suck it up and go big. You will not regret it.

I use a Yukon XL Denali - 6.2L. Load leveling suspension with 7900 lbs. tow capacity. The downside is that it avg. 13.2 MPG!! So get a Tahoe Hybrid - gives 23+ MPG when not towing!
